To help counting you can use counters, if you have them or pieces of pasta! Anything will do. Just follow the unit from the beginning when your child starts their isolation. Start with Lesson 3 as this is where the focus on NUMBER BONDS STARTS. https://classroom.thenational.academy/units/numbers-to-10-526c
These are our afternoon subjects - I have added in the days that we do this subject, so you can organise yourself in the same manner - but feel free to organise your afternoons how best suits you!
MONDAY RE - this half term is all about Mary and the birth of the baby Jesus. We will learn all about Mary, why she is so special and why God chose her. We will learn the Hail Mary prayer, the story of the visitation of the Angel Gabriel to Mary’s house and write our own prayer to Mary. THURSDAY - Art - This half term we are going to focus on how a series of different artists use colour in their work to portray what they see and their feelings towards their study. Our unit is called Colour Chaos. In this unit we will examine the work of Mondrian, Klee, Delaunary, Kandinsky and Pollack and look at how they used colour, space and shape to create their works of art.
Today’s lesson we focus on how Mark Rothko used colour mixing to produce his abstract work. I would like the children to experiment with this style and colours to create their own ’colour mixing’ work in the style of Rothko. The children will need some paints, a brush, water pot, paper and something to mix their paint colours in. There is an activity sheet for this lesson for those children who may find planning on their own picture a bit tricky - I have added it, but I would rather see the children’s own creations. Have fun and Mrs V and I look forward to seeing the results!
FRIDAY - Topic - this unit is all about our local area, looking at maps, learning how to read keys and finding out as much as we can about the area we live in. If your child is self isolating this week, here is their work for the week ahead….
Maths - this week we will continue our work on multiplication. and begin to introduce the concept of division through sharing. In this unit, children will develop their understanding of multiplication as repeated addition, understanding the difference between equal and not equal groups. They will use their knowledge of skip counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and will use concrete, pictorial and abstract representations to help them to find the total of multiple equal groups and of doubles. These representations will include arrays, a powerful way of developing multiplicative reasoning. This week we start to look at how grouping can be used to share — again ensuring the groups are equal.
https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/summer-week-4-number-multiplication-and-division/
For English, I have added an online unit based on listening to a story and writing about it - I have added this site because it has videos of the story and clear instructions as to what to do. Thought it would be straightforward for you all. Please follow the link below which will lead you to the story unit The Unlucky Man This is a story unit which will focus on listening to a story, retelling the story and has a big focus on adjectives to help with the children’s own writing. This will take you to a five lesson plan - this will see you through one week of home learning. Enjoy!! This unit has a focus on adjectives and character description.
https://classroom.thenational.academy/units/the-unlucky-man-2e92
Please take a look at Education City - password in the front of the children’s reading records - I will ensure that your child has work that they can access on this site.
https://www.educationcity.com/
Also, use homework page on class blog for Phase 3 phonics, handwriting and Oxford Owl site. http://www.ourladyassumption-sch.co.uk/yr1-homework
Phonics Focus for this week, we are having a bit of a re-cap over previously taught sounds - ‘er’ a better letter and ‘oy’ toy for a boy - BBC Bitesize is super for Phonics support and KS1 activities in general. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/levels/z3g4d2p Also see https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk for phonics support. I have also added an image of the RWI phonics and rhymes that we use in class. Please try and practice these each day.

Phonics Phase 4 Games https://www.twinkl.co.uk/go/resource/tg-ga-158-level-4-phonics-game-show
Phonics Video Link - Set 2 and 3 sounds - the children may find listening to the little video helpful and they can join in too! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aR0BV1zaFDM
READING - Please use the Oxford Owl site for a wealth of free ebooks appropriate for Year 1. Please continue to read each day - books from this site and your child’s own books from home. You can continue to keep a record of daily reading in your child’s reading record. https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/
Please DO NOT bring in the children’s work to school - but do post pictures into the PORTFOLIO section of Class Dojo.
Try to do three hours of school work - 30 minutes of Phonics and Reading, 45 minutes of English and handwriting practice, 45 minutes of Maths including Mental Maths (we are working on doubling and halving within 10, adding one more or one less to a number under 30 in class) and an hour of Topic based work in the afternoon. Just try your best - that is all I ask - I know it is very hard when you are working at home too.
The handwriting format, the common exception words for Year 1 and the Phase Three phonics chart are on the Homework page of this site. Please see the following page. https://www.ourladyassumption-sch.co.uk/yr1-homework/2020/11/13/autumn-term-expectations

Monday - RE today we will thinking about the miracles of Jesus, this week focusing on Jesus turning water into wins at the wedding in Cana. Please share the story on the power point with your child, ask them to sequence the story card if you are able to print them out and then use the picture clues to help re-tell the story in their own words.
Tuesday - Science today we will continue with our topic on Changing Materials. Lesson 6 Why do we change materials?
In this lesson, we will be learning about why we change materials. You will learn how raw materials can be changed to make synthetic materials and you will think about how the properties of these materials are different before and after the change. You will need a piece of paper and a pencil.

They will use their knowledge of skip counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and will use concrete, pictorial and abstract representations to help them to find the total of multiple equal groups and of doubles. These representations will include arrays, a powerful way of developing multiplicative reasoning.

For English, I have added an online unit based on listening to a story and writing about it - I have added this site because it has videos of the story and clear instructions as to what to do. Thought it would be straightforward for you all. Please follow the link below which will lead you to the story unit Honey and Trouble. This is a story unit which will focus on listening to a story, retelling the story and has a big focus on adjectives to help with the children’s own writing. This will take you to a ten lesson plan - this will see you through two weeks of home learning. Enjoy!! This unit has a focus on adjectives and character description.

If your child is self isolating this week, here is their work for the week ahead….
Maths - This week we will focus on numbers up to 50. This unit will develop the children’s knowledge of the numbers between 20 and 50. They will be able to count forwards and backwards to 50 and identify missing numbers in a sequence. This unit contains a focus on counting in 10’s and as there is no activity for Monday - I have added activities based on counting in 10’s.
