Welcome back to the start of a new term and the beginning of a new adventure for your children. We have had a fantastic start to the new school year, with all of the children making a good first impression.

I will be holding a parents meeting on WEDNESDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER in class at 2.50pm - a chance for us to all meet and an opportunity for me to go through a few of the key details for Year 1.

Just a few details for now - PE days will be Monday and Friday. Please can the children come to school wearing their kit on that day and ensure that any children who have earrings in, remove them AT HOME for that day. Children CANNOT take part in PE if they are wearing earrings and we CANNOT do it for them.

Reading books will be changed on a Monday and a Thursday. I will explain more about how we teach reading in Year 1 at the meeting on Wednesday, but please ensure you sign your child’s record each time they read to an adult at home.

This week we have been learning…..

English - the children have all done a piece of independent writing about their holidays. Each child as also been assessed this week to inform our Read Write Ink (RWI) English groups - I will explain more at the meeting.

Maths - our theme this week has been Variation - same but different - and looking at all the ways in which we can shown the same number. We have used cubes, digits, fingers, words, and counters on a ten frame.

RE - we have started our new topic all about God’s Wonderful World by reading the story of Creation.

Topic - we have drawn the people in our family as we start our topic all about Our Families

PLEASE COULD I ASK - you to send in a family photo that we can put up on our display board to support our topic work. Thank-you to those who have done this already!

MORNINGS - the children have had a week back at school now and time to settle in, so from MONDAY can I please ask all parents to drop their children off at the class gate and not to bring them to the classroom door. This is an important step for the children and their independence, so I do ask for your assistance. If you need to speak to me or Mrs Veasey in the morning, then one of us will always be on the door or opening the gate so you can still do this., but please leave your child at the gate to walk into class on their own. Thank-you very much for your support with this matter.

We are in church first things tomorrow morning to celebrate the beginning of the school year and also Our Lady’s birthday.

Our School Council members have been chosen today. This year James and Zahra will attend School Council meetings with Mrs Hodgkiss. Thank-you to all the children who put themselves forward, there were some many that we had to draw their names out of a hat!

Hope to see you on Wednesday - if you can’t make it, don’t worry, I will send home information packs on Thursday for those unable to attend.

And finally….thank-you so much for all the lovely work that has come in this week telling me all about the children’s holidays. We loved sharing their photos and writing - they were wonderful!

Have a lovely weekend….Mrs Hollinghurst and Mrs Veasey
