Our aim in Year 1 is to ensure that the children experience a smooth transition from the Foundation Stage to Key Stage One. The Year 1 curriculum builds upon and extends the skills and experiences the children have had in Reception. Year 1 children will at times experience a more formal learning environment, however learning through child initiated activities and exploration will continue to be an important part of the children's learning journey, building on their own natural curiosities and creativity. This ensures the high levels of motivation and enthusiasm which are needed for an optimum learning environment, enabling them to thrive.
