We've had another good week in Year 5. Yesterday, we went across to church for our class mass which linked in nicely to what we had been reflecting on in our RE lessons last week, the Transfiguration. Well done Year 5 for showing respect and especially to our readers who all read so beautifully.
Father Frank also awarded the children a prize for completing a challenge earlier in the week. Father often comes in with a challenge and last week he set them a maths challenge which Elsie answered and explained resulting in a win for the class! Well done!
Swimming next week...
Next Tuesday will be a water safety lesson at swimming. The children will need to bring their swim kit and pyjama style bottoms and long sleeved top to the lesson. Please note, NO thick fleecy ones as these will hold too much water and will be heavy in the pool. The children will still need to wear their swimming kit under their clothes as they will be removing the clothing during the lesson.
Our award winners:
Golden Award (RESPECT) - Leo

Maths Award - Matilda
Our learning this week…
In English the children have been writing creatively using figurative language. They have used alliteration and personification to create poems based on illustrations from our model text, FArTHER.
Our focus in maths has continued to be subtracting fractions including from mixed numbers and problem solving.
In RE we continued to look at the Transfiguration of Jesus and have reflected on what that tells us about Jesus.
This week’s prayer and liturgy was planned and led by Luna and Austin. In their liturgy, they told the story of John the Baptist recognising who Jesus really is. John sees Jesus coming towards him and calls him “the Lamb of God.” This is a special title that means Jesus has come to bring peace, forgiveness, and new life to the world. John explains that God showed him that Jesus is the one sent to help everyone come closer to God.
This scripture helps us understand that Jesus is chosen by God and that his mission is to show love, kindness, and forgiveness to all people. It also reminds us that sometimes we are called to notice good in others and to help people see what is special about them.
“Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
John 1:29

In art, some children have started to use modroc to make their 3D sculpture inspired by the work of Alberto Giacometti .
During our history lesson, the children finished creating their timeline of the important events that took place during the Vikings time in Britain.
In Spanish we have been practising naming different foods and drink.
In PE the children are working with PE specialist Max from Blackpool Football Club Community Trust. The focus of PE this half term is gymnastics.

The BEBCMAT Rock Stars Super League has a new competition, which started on Monday and runs till the 12th February. Good luck everyone!
Our school is currently in 4th place out of 15 schools in the trust and we have scored 1070 points (school average score) so far.
