Third week of Advent

This week marked the third week of Advent when we lit the joy candle. Joy is a very real and deep happiness that is rooted in faith and trust. In this third week of Advent, we pause and reflect on the first half of Advent, as well as look ahead to the last weeks.

This week's festivities!

This week has been a busy one!!

We started the week at the pantomime on Monday, where we watched Peter Pan. It was a great afternoon, and all the children had so much fun.

On Tuesday, we had the privilege of watching KS1's Nativity performance in the morning and Year 4's cornet concert in the afternoon; both were superb! We also made our Christmas cards and calendars on Tuesday afternoon.

On Wednesday,  we used our morning to have a play around with Learning by Questions and we practiced our carol songs in the afternoon.

On Thursday KS2 watched The Little Match Girl in the hall before going over to church to have a last run through of our carol service. In the afternoon we shared our carol service with KS1 and parents; thank you to all those who came to join in our celebration!

On Friday we had a festive filled day, with Christmas themed colourings, puzzles and films. It was a lovely day to celebrate the end of our first term and a deserved break from our every day learning. Year 6 have worked so incredibly hard this first term, so they had certainly earned it! We also had an assembly in the morning and those children who attended the Advent Service at Christ the King Church the other week, shared their performance with the school-I was one proud teacher!

Farewell & Good Luck!

This week was bitter/sweet as we said our goodbyes to Aibhin and Conleth! They move to Ireland later this month, and their last day at Our Lady's was today. Aibhin and Conleth will be dearly missed by their Year 6 peers and teachers alike (yes, there were tears shed today!). They have given so much to our school and have fully embraced our values of learning, caring and respecting over the years. We wish all of the McArdle family the very best as they start their new chapter in Ireland! Even if you are in a different country, you will always be part of the Our Lady's family! Good luck and God bless.

We also felt it was fitting that this week's GOLDEN AWARDS went to Aibhin & Conleth for being upstanding members of Our Lady's school. They have both embraced our values to learn, care and respect for the past 6 years, and I have no doubt they will continue to shine in their new school!

Our Golden Ticket winners…

During this half term, all children have been awarded a golden ticket for each three times they have read this term. Today, during our Golden Award celebration assembly, each class drew a golden ticket winner and our Golden Ticket winner for reading this half term was Olivia for Year 6. Along with the other winners, they have won a prize which has kindly been donated by the PTFA. Well done Olivia!

Dates For Your Diary

Notices

  •  PE days next Half Term (Spring 1) on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
  • Reading books - Year 6 will re take their Star Reading test when we return in January and they will receive their new ZPD . We do want the children to challenge themselves with their home readers, so please do let me know if you ever think the book they are reading at home is perhaps not challenging enough.
  • Homework- I have not set any homework over the Christmas break. Please do, however, keep on top of your home reading!
  • Contact information- We no longer access the year group email (year6@…) If you need to contact me for any reason, and cannot catch me at the door, feel free to either pop an email to the admin address (with Year 6 in the subject box) or give the school a ring.

Thank you!

Thank you so much for the gifts and festive well wishes we have received this week. We are humbled by your generosity. Thank you also to all parents/guardians for your continued support this first half term. We have achieved so much already! Well done Year 6!

So that just leaves us to say.....MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

All the best and we shall see you in 2026!
