"Believe in yourself, and you will achieve great things".
What a great week we’ve had! Year 4 have made a great start to this year and it has been lovely to spend time getting to know them a little better. The children are settling in nicely and learning the new routines, alongside working with two teachers - we are excited to be working with them this year!
We’ve talked a lot about Zones of regulation and recognising when we need to take a breath to ensure that we stay focused and on task. We’ve also talked about how important it is to work hard and that if the children believe in themselves this year, they will achieve great things and any mistakes they make are just proof that they are trying. We’re off to a good start and I know we’re going to have a fantastic year!
Reading and Golden Tickets
📚Your child will come home with a reading book and reading diary next week. We use an assessment tool called Star Reader to assess the ZPD of your child’s book (this gauges the level of challenge that your child should be reading). Bookmarks and diaries will be checked daily so please encourage your child to read daily if they can and they must have their book and diary in every day. Children should aim to read at least 20 minutes a day and discuss their reading if possible with an adult - this will ensure progress is maintained and the expected standard is met. I’d love to see everyone in class achieving their first completed bookmark by the end of this half term. In Year 4, we will celebrate our reading champions at the end of each half term.
This year, the whole school will continue to do our reading challenge started in the Summer term. Children will receive a golden ticket each time they read and get their reading diary signed three times. At the end of each half term, during our celebration assembly, we will draw a golden ticket from each class’s box, and one winner from each class will receive a reward. Please encourage your child to read regularly and bring in their signed reading diary so they can start collecting their golden tickets. Thank you for your support.

Our learning this week…
In English, the focus of our lessons has been spelling, focusing on using prefixes. The children have also completed a reading assessment and will be choosing their new reading book to come home.
In Maths the focus has been on place value and times tables.
In RE we have begun looking at our new topic on Abraham. The children also wrote some beautiful prayers for Mary.
Homework Please look at the homework page
Year 4 will use online learning TTRS for their homework to practise their times tables this year, alongside reading and spelling homework. I will add more details next week. In the meantime, the children should just focus on their daily reading and using TTRS for their times tables. All homework is on the homework page of the website.
Well done Year 4, you’ve made a great start! We hope you all have a great weekend.
