✨✨Head Boy & Head Girl✨✨

This week teachers and pupils voted for the girl and boy they would like to take on the role of Head Boy and Head Girl. After watching each and every one of them deliver their speeches on Friday, this decision certainly was not an easy one! They were all incredible and each one would have been worthy of this role. After collating all votes this week, I am pleased to officially announce our new Head Girl as Olivia and our new Head Boy as Leo. With the second highest amount of votes, Martha and William will be our Deputy Head Girl and Head Boy, respectively, CONGRATULATIONS to you all!!

Next week everyone will have their official roles of responsibility!

Thank you to Zachary, Conleth and Jackson for leading this week’s worship so thoughtfully. Their worship refected on this week’s Gospel reading, Luke:16. In this reading we understand that Jesus was teaching us that in order to dedicate our lives to God, we have to understand the true meaning of wealth: wealth in love and faith, not in money. The boys had the class respond to this reflection by writing a prayer and asking them to go forth and show their love to others.

In RE this week we looked at the life and work of Belgian Priest and Scientist, Fr. Georges Lemaitre. He was living proof that religious and scientific views on creation can be compatible with each other. He came up with the theory of ‘The Big Bang’ (although be did not give it this name), that the universe began as a single point and continued to expand. We had many discussions in this lesson about how science helps us to understand how the world works and religion helps us to understand its relationship with God: The Creator. The class then took on the role of Fr. Georges, writing a letter to a confused parishioner, explaining his views on religion and science.

Here is what we have been up to this week…

In Maths we focused on prime, square and cube numbers at the beginning of the week and moved onto written methods for multiplication and division by the end of the week. We used the multi-link cubes to help us deepen our understanding of cube numbers…

In English we continued with our biography topic. We used Usain Bolt’s biography to retrieve/infer information from a text and we highlighted any relative clauses we could identify. We are going to use Usain Bolt as our focus person for our shred biography write. This week completed a plan together and we even made a start to our shared write. The shared write is a really good opportunity for the class to write a biography to a really high standard, by sharing ideas and using our toolkits to ensure we include all that we need to. This will prove to be invaluable when the class come to doing their independent write.

In History we continued on from last lesson, exploring some of the ‘Big Questions’ that we wanted to find the answers to about life in the workhouses in Victorian Britain.

In Science we continued our work on the Circulatory System. This week our focus was on the blood. We looked at the four components of blood (plasma, white blood cells, red blood cells & platelets) and what proportion of the blood they take up. Our task was to describe the functions of the different components of the blood before drawing a pie chart to show what percentage each of these components take up. Some children then went on to answer the challenge question ‘What happens when we graze our knee?’

This afternoon, in celebration of European Languages Day we learnt about our counrty, Belgium. We even got to sample a belgian delicacy….waffles!

If they do find any of these books too tricky and it takes away the pleasure, they just need to tell me and we will find a more suited text.

At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.

Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.

This month’s online safety guide gives helpful advice about…

What Parents & Educators Need to Know about Snapchat  This updated online safety guide examines Snapchat’s latest features, including AI tools, Snap Map, and subscription content, and the potential risks they pose to young users, from screen addiction to sextortion.

We hope you find these guides informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all. Thank you.
