Thank you to Callum, Oscar and Jacob for leading this week’s worship so beautifully. The theme of their worship was hope and gratitude, reflecting on our thankfulness to our Lord for giving us his one and only son, Jesus Christ.

In RE this week we have been debating the statement, 'Belief in the biblical creation story is compatible with scientific accounts of the beginnings of the universe and the theory of evolution.' In order for us to explore this question in more depth we looked in more detail at the scientific explanations. We then had an open debate about whether we believed the religious and scientific explanations can coexist. Each child then used their notes and opinions to form a written, balanced argument.

Here is what we have been up to this week…

In Maths we have been solving addition and subtractions problems, solving problems with common factors and multiples and looking at the rules of divisibility.

In English we continued with our biography topic. We identified cohesive devices in a biography on Chris Hadfield then went back to looking at Walt Disney's biography. We used Disney's biography to help us plan and write our first incidental write: a formal letter of application. We took on the role of Walt Disney and responded to a job advertisement for the role of Chief Animator at Pixar. We had to remind ourselves of our purpose and audience and hoe to maintain a formal tone.

In History we continued on from last lesson, exploring some of the ‘Big Questions’ that we wanted to find the answers to about life in the workhouses in Victorian Britain.

In Science we continued our work on the Circulatory System. The class has the task of using a word bank to write a scientific explanation of how the circulatory system works and the role of the blood vessels.

In HRSE we focused on our emotions and big feelings we might have, particularly as we get older. We discussed how we can start to feel emotions that perhaps we hadn’t really felt before (or at least were not as aware of this feelings). This then led us into a discussion about how we can manage these emotions and ‘reframe’ our thoughts when/where needed.

Head Boy & Girl Speeches:

huge well done to all of those who applied to be Head Boy or Girl. I was absolutely bursting with pride watching each and every one of them deliver their speeches in assembly today. I am relieved that I do not have to vote! All votes will be collated early next week and we can make an official announcement at some point next week.

🌟 AWARD WINNERS! 🌟

Due to head boy/girl speeches, we will be giving our certificates in Monday’s assembly. I will update this page on Monday!

  • Thursday 13th November Year 5 & 6 Class Liturgy (9am) Next half term Year 5 & 6 will be leading an assembly for parents to attend. I know this is a while away but you might want to pop the date in your diary now.

📌Notices📌

  • PE days- Wednesdays this half term.

  • Water bottles-these need to be filled and brought in each day and taken home to be cleaned at the end of each day. Each child in the class was provided with a school water bottle-please can you ensure these are the bottles that are brought in daily and not their own water bottle from home.

  • Reading books - we have now completed our STAR Reading tests and each child has been given their ZPD range. I have mentioned to the children that I would like them to be challenged by their home reading books, so to focus on the upper end of their ZPD range. If they do find any of these books too tricky and it takes away the pleasure, they just need to tell me and we will find a more suited text.

  • Homework- Please find details on this week’s homework here.

  • Contact information- We no longer access the year group email (year6@…) If you need to contact me for any reason, and cannot catch me at the door, feel free to either pop an email to the admin address (with Year 6 in the subject box) or give the school a ring.

  • For those who could not attend the Meet the Teacher meeting, here is the PowerPoint:
