In RE this week we have focused of Jesus’ Ascension. Before Jesus ascended back to heaven, to be with His Father, he left the disciples with a very important mission: to continue His work on earth. The disciples were confused: how could they possibly have the same impact that their Lord, Jesus, had? However, Jesus also made them a promise-he would send the Holy Spirit to give them power and strength to do this. After a discussion about this, the class then got into small groups and acted out this scene.

Here is what else we have been up to….
In our Maths this week the class got their papers back. We used these in our SATs booster groups to see what revision we need to do. In our normal maths lesson we have focused on triangles and percentages.
In English we continued with our Darwin discovery unit. We explored some new vocabulary and looked at the effect some sentences had on the reader. These came from the example text for this unit. We then read over the example text in full and wrote a summary of this.
On Monday afternoon, we also went to the Grand Theatre to watch The RSC’s first encounters version of The Tempest. This was such a great opportunity for us to see actors live on stage, re enacting the play that we had been studying the week before. I hope the class enjoyed it! Due to this trip, we did not have a Science lesson this week.
In HRSE our focus was on different types of abuse: neglect, emotional abuse and physical abuse. We listened to three different children’s stories and identified which abuse we believed they were a victim of. The class then filled in some work from the module workbook, describing each type of abuse.
Well done, Year 6
I am so proud with how well this class are doing with their SATs practice. I know that this time of the year in Year 6 can be quite a lot as the pressure builds and SATs week nears. I just want to reiterate what I have already said in class: we cannot ask you to do any more than give each paper your all, which is exactly what you are ALL doing. Regardless of the mark you get on each paper, you can all be very proud in the knowledge that you have tried your very hardest!
🎟 Home Reading – Golden Tickets! 🎟
As a school, we are always looking for ways to improve children’s engagement with reading. During the Summer term, the whole school will be taking part in a reading challenge. Children will receive a golden ticket each time they read and get their reading diary signed three times. At the end of each half term, during our celebration assembly, we will draw a golden ticket from each class’s box, and one winner from each class will receive a reward. Please encourage your child to read regularly and bring in their signed reading diary so they can start collecting their golden tickets. Thank you for your support.
Thank you Mrs Ormerod!! ♥
This week was Mrs Ormerod’s last week with us in Year 6 😥. We cannot thank Mrs Ormerod enough for the support she has given to each and every single child in this class, especially in this lead up to SATs week. Not only did she spend the whole first term with this class, before I returned from maternity leave, she has stuck by us from then until now and continued to provide intervention and support in the mornings. We have been incredibly luck to have someone with such expertise in Year 6 and she will certainly be missed. We will, however, still have Mrs Ormerod present in the hall during our SATs week!
Mrs Ormerod will now be based in Year 4 as well as continuing her role as SEND lead. We wish you all the best!
Kooth: Mental health and well being support
Please find below an information letter from Kooth, which is a resource that offers free, safe and anonymous mental health and well-being support for young people no matter what worries they are facing. In the lead up to SATs week this could be a useful resource for any struggling with anxiety or stress. I would hope the children also know that we are always here to talk to as well if they are ever finding the work we are doing overwhelming or stressful!
VE Day Celebration-Thursdsay 8th May
On Thursday 8th May Our Lady’s will join the rest of the nation in remembering the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day. It is fundamental that our children understand what this day means and understand the sacrifices of those that have gone before them. To mark this day we are asking all of our children to come to school dressed in red, white and blue - please do not feel you have to buy anything special - most of our uniform consists of these colours - we just want to mark the day out as something special and wearing different colours will help the children to understand that. We will have different activities going on throughout the day in each of the classes to help the children understand the significance of VE Day and your support with this would be much appreciated.
