Muchas gracias por participar en nuestro Día Europeo de las Lenguas🇪🇸. Thank you for taking part in our European Languages day🇪🇸. The children all looked fantastic in the colours of the Spanish flag. We had a great day learning about the culture and language and the children enjoyed the food tasting…

Yesterday, we had our first class mass in church. The children were all so reverent and well done to all our readers, who read so beautifully. Father Frank talked to the children about the difference between a promise and a covenant, linking in with our RE topic this half term. He then challenged the children to promise to be their very best and to Love one another as Jesus asked us too. Back in class, I gave the children a bookmark to remind the children of this promise to be their very best and be kind.

On Wednesday it was National school milk day and we were visited by Mr Bloom, who many of you may remember from Cbeebies. He taught us all about healthy eating and the importance of milk. The children all had a fun time!

In maths, the children have been comparing, ordering and rounding numbers to 1,000,000.

In RE we have made an in depth look at the story of Moses and the burning bush. We have reflected on the words and imagery

Bikeability

Please see the letter and permission forms sent home today. If your child can ride a bike, then they have the opportunity to take part. Please sign and send the forms back soon so that numbers can be confirmed with the Bikeability team. It is better if the children have their own bike and helmet but bikes and helmets will be available if needed - please make the request on the form. If your child does not wish to take part, please just write this across the form and send back to me so that we are aware. Thank you!

RIAT STEM

On Thursday 9th October, Year 5 will take part in the RIAT STEM challenge day. Please read and send back the media permissions forms sent home today, please. Thank you!

Our learning this week…

In English the children have put themselves in the moon boots of Neil Armstrong and have written their own reflection in his voice using first person. They’ve also been thinking about how to describe the moon, what the astronauts must have seen, what they were thinking and how they must have felt.

Our focus in maths has beenf God's revelation to Moses and have considered if this is how we would expect God to reveal Himself.

This week’s prayer and liturgy was planned and led by Celia and Priya. Their liturgy was about how the little things we do every day really matter. In the Bible reading, Jesus teaches us that if we can be trusted with small things, we can be trusted with bigger things too. He also reminds us that we can't serve two masters — we have to choose what’s right and put God first. Let’s listen carefully and think about how we can be trustworthy and make good choices in our own lives.

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much,” Luke 16:10

In science we have been learning about the movement of the Earth relative to the sun.

In Spanish we have continued to learn the seven days of the week.

In music we have listened to Livin’ on a Prayer by Bon Jovi and have dicussed the instruments used, found the pace of the music and identified the style of music. We completed some challenges and played along with the xylophone.

In PE the children are working with PE specialist Max from Blackpool Football Club Community Trust. The focus of their lessons this half term is hockey.

The new BEBCMAT Rock Stars Super League competition started this week and runs till the 24th October Good luck everyone!

Our school is currently in 4th place out of 15 schools in the trust and we have scored 768 points (school average score) so far.

At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.

Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.

This month’s online safety guide gives helpful advice about…

What Parents & Educators Need to Know about Snapchat  This updated online safety guide examines Snapchat’s latest features, including AI tools, Snap Map, and subscription content, and the potential risks they pose to young users, from screen addiction to sextortion.

We hope you find these guides informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all. Thank you.
