Pope Leo XIV 'Peace be with you all'

On Thursday 8th May, our new Pope was chosen.

Pope Leo XIV will be a voice of wisdom in a fractured and divided world, as he continues the important work of leading the church in the world and providing spiritual and moral guidance to the global community.

On Thursday 8th May Our Lady’s joined the rest of the nation in remembering the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day. It is fundamental that our children understand what this day means and understand the sacrifices of those that have gone before them.

To mark this day the children to came to school dressed in red, white and blue and we held different activities throughout the day in each of the classes to help the children understand the significance of VE Day. Thank you for your support.

Our learning this week…

In English, we have been continuing to write, edit and produce final copies of our own stories based on the lost narrative. We have thought carefully about including adjectives, adverbs, prepositions and conjunctions. We are also working hard to ensure we have used all of the correct punctuation.

In Maths we have started our new topic on money. This week we have been exploring how to make different amounts of money using notes and coins. We have also focused on counting up amounts of money and recording as £ and p.

In History, we have been learning all about the Roman invasion of Britain, considering reasons for the invasion and using timelines to understand chronology of some events.

In Science, we have been continuing to grow our knowledge of rocks. This week we have thought about the effects of biological, physical and chemical weathering.

In RE, we have exploring the bible story ‘Road to Emmaus’, thinking carefully about the messages of hope that Christians can learn from this story and making links to the events of the Last Supper and of the Eucharist as celebrated during the Mass.

As a school, we are always looking for ways to improve children’s engagement, so during the Summer term, the whole school will be taking part in a reading challenge. Children will receive a golden ticket each time they read and get their reading diary signed three times. At the end of each half term, during our celebration assembly, we will draw a golden ticket from each class’s box, and one winner from each class will receive a reward. Please encourage your child to read regularly and bring in their signed reading diary so they can start collecting their golden tickets. Thank you for your support.

Spellings, times tables and homework

The children will be coming home with their spellings and homework on Monday 12th May, this needs to be returned by Monday 19th May 2025.
