Journey through Eastertide

Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered Him, “No.” He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.”

John 21:5-6

Key Messages
Children will understand that:

  • Jesus, the Son of God, is alive today!

  • Jesus is our friend who loves us and wants to feed us.

  • We can trust Jesus to care for us and provide for our needs.

On Thursday 8th May Our Lady’s will join the rest of the nation in remembering the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day. It is fundamental that our children understand what this day means and understand the sacrifices of those that have gone before them.

To mark this day we are asking all of our children to come to school dressed in red, white and blue - please do not feel you have to buy anything special - most of our uniform consists of these colours - we just want to mark the day out as something special and wearing different colours will help the children to understand that.

We will have different activities going on throughout the day in each of the classes to help the children understand the significance of VE Day and your support with this would be much appreciated.

Our learning this week…

In English, we have been continuing to write, edit and produce final copies of our own stories based on the lost narrative. We have thought carefully about including adjectives, adverbs, prepositions and conjunctions. We are also working hard to ensure we have used all of the correct punctuation.

In Maths we have been exploring how to find unit and non unit fractions of an amount, applying and consolidating understanding through a variety of word problems involving real life situations, The children were encouraged to verbalise their reasoning and explain strategies used.

As a school, we are always looking for ways to improve children’s engagement, so during the Summer term, the whole school will be taking part in a reading challenge. Children will receive a golden ticket each time they read and get their reading diary signed three times. At the end of each half term, during our celebration assembly, we will draw a golden ticket from each class’s box, and one winner from each class will receive a reward. Please encourage your child to read regularly and bring in their signed reading diary so they can start collecting their golden tickets. Thank you for your support.
