Lord we lift up your name, with our hearts full of praise.

Good afternoon everyone,

In RE this week we have been learning about Palm Sunday. This links in with our ongoing practise for our Palm Liturgy next Friday afternoon.

We discussed how the people were so excited to see Jesus and waved palm leaves in the air. We also learned how Jesus knew what would happen to him but still greeted the crowds warmly. We learned how, in our own lives, we can also offer warmth and kindness to others, even when we feel worried, angry or hurt.

We have also had Father Frank in with us, teaching us some lovely songs ready for our next Mass.

English - In English we have begun our work on Gradnad’s Island. We have done some work on expanded noun phrases and using powerful adverbs to create interesting descriptive sentences. We also began to explore how apostrophes can be used to show something belongs to someone and have created our own sentences using apostrophes.

Maths - In Maths we have shown real fluency in our division work. Many of us can recall division facts quickly. We have explored bar models to support division and have solved word problems.

Science - We have been out exploring nature. We identified microhabitats in our local area and investigated which living things were in them.

RE - In RE, we continued to learn about Palm Sunday and explored the deeper meaning of the story and symbols within it. We also began to do some work on The Last Supper and the actions Jesus did.

History - We learned about the moon landing in 1969 and Neil Armstrong’s famous words.

PE - Our Wednesday PE focused on striking a ball for distance and fielding. We had no Friday PE due to Palm Liturgy practice in church.

Computing - We began our unit on coding, using Scratch Jr.

Please continue to practise counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s. Please continue to use TTRockstars to practise times tables.

Please practise the year 1 and year 2 common exception words sent home before half term. The children need to be able to read and write (spelling correctly) each one of these by the end of year 2.

Spelling Test

15 words focused on the /igh/ sound spelt with ‘y’ at the end of words. There are also a few previous words to revisit. 10 will be chosen for the test.

Maths

Properties of 2D shapes worksheet.

Reading

Palm Sunday comprehension text.

Year 2 PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Friday. Please come to school in PE kit on these days.

Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 2 have green tops.

I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Bowdell and Miss Andrew and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson.

Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Bowdell and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.

Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it creates fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.

School bags - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don’t not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.

Friday 4th April - KS1 Palm Sunday liturgy - join us in Church at 2.30pm to see KS1 retell the story of Palm Sunday as we begin our Holy Week celebrations.

Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Primary School Run to Rome

Sponsored Event for Cafod

As a school we are together going to run the distance from our school to The Vatican in Rome. We will be doing this by running laps around our field. Together we will run a distance of 2180km.

Our running club have launched the event by running 122 laps and they have pledged to run 1000 more laps.

Each class has been given a target number of laps to run before Friday 25th April when we will celebrate reaching our total and will be sending Miss Heim Sarac off on her London Marathon Event!! Miss Heim- Sarac is running for Cafod.  Please support us by sponsoring the run.

We would ask parents to collect sponsorship from friends and family and then pay the total amount through your child’s parentpay account. This event will be added to parentpay account ‘Run to Rome for Cafod’ in order for proceeds to be sent directly to Cafod as we are now a cashless school. Please can all sponsorship forms be returned by Tuesday 22nd April 2025.
