'In the springtime, the heart regrows hope.'

Good afternoon everyone,

I feel like the quote above really sums up both the our calendar season and our liturgical focuses. In school, we continue our work on being pilgrims of hope. We think of how we place our trust in God’s hands and know he comes along on our journey with us.

It can be hard to be hopeful when the weather is cold, wet and dull. However, the flashes of spring we have experienced this week will certainly put is in a better frame of mind and guide us in our own hopefulness.

English - In English we have finished our work on the Bog Baby and now move onto our next story. We will not reveal this just yet as we have some prediction work to do first!

Maths - In Maths we continue our work on division and have been increasingly using our knowledge of multiplication as the inverse to solve these problems.

Science - We have explored food chains. We learned about producers and consumers and how all food chains begin with the sun and then a green plant.

RE - In RE, we learned about forgiveness and our experiences with it. We also learnt exactly what reconciliation means. We have also been learning about Palm Sunday as the first of the Easter stoties.

History - We learned about the significance of Amelia Earhart and how she was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. We explored eyewitness accounts and wrote our own account.

PE - Our Wednesday PE focused on striking a ball for distance. Our Friday PE focused on using equipment to create a gymnastic sequence.

Computing - We finished typing up our word documents.

Please continue to practise counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s. Please continue to use TTRockstars to practise times tables.

Please practise the year 1 and year 2 common exception words sent home before half term. The children need to be able to read and write (spelling correctly) each one of these by the end of year 2.

Times Tables

NExt week’s test will be on division facts for the 5 times table.

Maths

Multiplication and division fact families worksheet.

Reading

Spring comprehension text.

Golden Award - Arthur - For huge effort with taking responsibility for himself and his learning. He has shown what a polite young man he is!

Writing Award - Amelia S - For a fantastic instructions text.

Maths Award - Layla - For working hard on her maths challenges.

Act of Kindness -

Year 2 PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Friday. Please come to school in PE kit on these days.

Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 2 have green tops.

I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Bowdell and Miss Andrew and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson.

Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Bowdell and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.

Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it creates fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.

School bags - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don’t not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.

Friday 4th April - KS1 Palm Sunday liturgy - join us in Church at 2.30pm to see KS1 retell the story of Palm Sunday as we begin our Holy Week celebrations.

Thank you for your attendance on Parents Afternoon. We hope you found the conversation helpful.

Please remember that you can contact me by email, telephone or catch me at drop off/pick up if you want to check on your child’s progress between now and the end of the academic year.

At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.

Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.

This month’s online safety guide gives helpful advice about…

What Parents & Educators Need to Know about Streamers. This free guide highlights the potential dangers children face when watching and engaging with streamers and the importance of staying informed so you can help mitigate the risks.

We hope you find these guides informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all. Thank you.
