'I am the good shepherd.' - John 10:11

Good afternoon everyone,

This week’s worship has focused on Jesus’ role as the good shepherd. Just like a shepherd cares for and knows each of his sheep, Jesus cares for and knows each of us. As year 2 have learned in our RE with the story of the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus knows us even better than we know ourselves!

Our worship has focused on knowing Jesus’ voice and listening to His calling. By listening, we can hear and feel what God and Jesus want us to do and this can help us to follow the right path to make the right choices.

English - This week we have planned and written our non-chronological report all about bog babies. We have also explored writer’s choices and their purpose in our example text.

Maths - In Maths we have finished our work on multiplication and division. However, we will be using those skills on our next unit - fractions. Fractions can be very tricky but if we have strong times table facts this can make things easier. This week we have learned to identify parts and whole, recognise and describe equal groups, identify half and find half of shapes and quantities.

Science - This week we checked on the growth progression of our seeds and bulbs. Some have grown really well, whilst others need a bit more time! We will continue to check their growth. We have also learned how plants are able to spread to different places through seed dispersal.

RE - In RE, we listened and rewrote the story of Jesus appearing on the shores of Lake Tiberias after his resurrection. We also thought about how this story links to other stories of Jesus, including the miraculous catch,

History - This week, we learned about Grace Darling’s typical day and how it differs from our own. We wrote a diary to explain Grace Darling’s day.

PE - Our Wednesday PE focused upon playground games, including hopscotch and Queenie, Queenie. Our Friday PE explored gymnastics, where we focused upon balances and rolls.

Computing - We continued to explore Scratch Jr to discover what each command does.

Please continue to practise counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s and the Year 1 and 2 common exception words.

Times Tables

Please practise the division facts for the 3 times table.

Reading

Garden birds reading comprehension.

Maths

Identifying half worksheet.

Golden Award - Buddy - for working on his focus and concentration for learning.

Writing Award - Nina - for an excellent bog babies non-chronological report.

Writing Award - Matilda - for creating her own non-chronological report on weasels at home!

Maths Award - Corey - for great problem solving in division.

Year 2 PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Friday. Please come to school in PE kit on these days.

Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 2 have green tops.

I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Bowdell and Miss Andrew and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson.

Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Bowdell and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.

Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it creates fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.

School bags - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don’t not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.

Have a lovely weekend,
