'Blessed are they who have not seen and yet believe .' - John 20:29

Good afternoon everyone,

This week’s worship has focused around when Jesus appeared to his disciples in a locked room after He had risen from death. The disciples were frightened at first, then they became confused, before beginning to feel joyful. Jesus showed them his wounds to confirm that He was really Jesus and that He had, indeed, died and risen again.

Jesus taught them of the importance of forgiveness and how they must repent for their sins and live honest lives and care for others to become closer to God.

The Bible called these disciples ‘witnesses’ and we, too are witnesses. In class we have discussed that even though we haven’t seen Jesus for ourselves, we are witnesses to His word in the Bible and witnesses to the goodness He brings to us and others. We must try and follow Jesus’ message.

English - This week we have focused upon vocabulary work and comprehension from our example text which is based on the Bog Baby. We have also explored, planned and created our own non-chronological report about Bog Babies.

Maths - In Maths we have divided by 5 and 10 and have also practised arithmetic by dividing by different numbers. We have also used bar models to help us solve division problems involving sharing and grouping.

Science - This week we set up an investigation to explore what plants need to grow. We have some seeds that will receive sun and water; some just sun; some just water; and some will get neither. In a few weeks we will compare their growth. We have also learned and explained a sunflower’s life cycle.

RE - In RE, we explored how the story of the Garden of Gethsemane explains some of the beliefs we have about Jesus. We have also looked at the Paschal candle, creating our own.

History - This week, we learned about Grace Darling and her early life. We worked in groups to create mindmaps to explain how she lived.

PE - Our Wednesday PE focused upon playground games. Our Friday PE explored gymnastics.

Computing - We explored Scratch Jr to discover what each command does.

Please continue to practise counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s and the Year 1 and 2 common exception words.

Spelling

Both groups - the /n/ sound spelt with ‘kn’ (and sometimes) ‘gn’.

There is also a handwriting and spelling worksheet for this.

Reading

Dogs non-chronological report reading comprehension.

Maths

Arithmetic practise sheet. We have not yet learned fractions. However, to support this, remind your child that fractions are like division: we divide by the bottom number then multiply by the top. E.g. for 1/3 of 15 we need to first do 15 divided by 3 = 5 then we do 1 x 5. If we want to solve, for instance 3/4 of 20 we need to first do 20 divided by 4 = 5 then do 3 x 5 = 15.

Year 2 PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Friday. Please come to school in PE kit on these days.

Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 2 have green tops.

I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Bowdell and Miss Andrew and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson.

Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Bowdell and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.

Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it creates fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.

School bags - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don’t not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.

Have a lovely weekend,
