'While He blessed them, He parted from them and was carried up to heaven.' - Luke 24:51

Good afternoon everyone,

This week we have been learning about Jesus’ ascension into heaven and how Jesus promised he would send the Holy Spirit, whilst an angel announced that Jesus would one day return. We discussed how we are waiting for this but that whilst we wait we can use the power of the Holy Spirit to shine our light like Jesus and prepare for his return.

This Week…

In English, we finished our grammar and punctuation and also our spelling SATS papers. We also began to do some work on poetry, wrote sentences about wishes and the problems they might cause after we read ‘The Fish Who Could Wish’ and began to learn about kennings poems.

In Maths, we continued our work on fractions. We focused upon recognising and using non-unit fractions and learned that 1/2 and 2/4 are the same so we can calculate a half to find this out. We also looked at how fractions can be added together to make a whole (1).

In Science, we continued to observe our bulbs and seeds. We also observed our beans grown without soil - some of them had germinated! Finally, we completed our investigation about what plants need to grow. We discovered that the plant that had water grew but looked quite pale and had no leaves but the plant with sun and water grew strongest and healthiest.

In RE, we wrote a letter to tell someone about Jesus’ ascension and what our mission was now he had returned to his father.

On Thursday, we had our party afternoon to celebrate completing our SATS. We danced, had some snacks, played games and went on the trim trail.

On Friday afternoon, we celebrated our Platinum Jubilee. We had a picnic lunch with our teddy bears and afterwards KS1 children made crowns, played croquet, created Union Jack flags and decorated biscuits.

Homework

I will not set specific homework over the holidays. But please try to read regularly as this is so important. I have also sent spelling words home to practise for a fortnight’s time.
