'If you love me, keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father to give you another Helper.' (John 14:15-16)

Good afternoon everyone,

This week in Year 2 we learned about a promise Jesus made to his friends before he died - that he would send a special Helper to guide the disciples and help them continue Jesus’ mission of peace and love. This helper was the Holy Spirit. We discussed the importance of the Holy Spirit and how it helps us in our lives.

SATS Update

Year 2 have been absolute superstars for the past two weeks. They have worked incredibly hard and I can honestly not put into words how amazed I have been at their maturity and perseverence in their special work. I am so proud of all of them! We have now completed both of our reading papers and both of our maths paper. Next week, we will be finishing off with a spelling test and our grammar and punctuation test.

Next Thursday (19th) afternoon, we will have celebrate our hard work these past few weeks with a small class party. We will have some snacks; have some music and dancing; play some party games and, weather permitting, will have some time on the trim trail and playing with outdoor equipment.

This Week In Year 2…

We have obviously been very busy with our SATS work and so much of our Maths and English work has been based around this but we have still worked hard.

In English, we have been revising some grammar and punctuation work. We have explored expanded noun phrases, commas for lists, adverbs, capital letters and full stops.

In Maths, we have revised some trickier concepts and explored some new ones. We looked at times and used clocks to make o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to times; we have explored some properties of shapes, including symmetry and have continued our work on finding three quarters of amounts.

In Science, we learned about the various ways that seeds are dispersed to give plants the best chance to grow. We sorted the different methods certain seeds are dispersed, including: wind, water, bursting, shaking, rolling, being eaten and sticking. We also set up an investigation to see whether plants could grow without being in soil. We will keep you updated!

|n RE, we looked at Jesus’ promise of the Holy Spirit and discussed and wrote about how the disciples feelings changed throughout the story. We also explored symbols which are used to represent the Holy Spirit and thought about why they are used.

In History, we learned about another famous person in the history of lifeboats: Sir William Hillary. We learned about his life and made comparisons between him and Grace Darling.

In Art, we developed our painting work by looking at how shades of blue can make a more effective sky colour.

Homework

Homework continues to be to work through the SATS Maths booklets sent home a fortnight ago.

As well as this, could I ask you to continue to practise your 3 times table, with a focus upon division facts. e.g. 6 x 3 = 18 so 18 divided by 3 = 6 and 18 divided by 6 = 3.

Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Teddy Bear’s Picnic

Key Stage 1 will be holding a Teddy Bears’ Picnic on FRIDAY 20TH MAY 2022 to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. On this day the children will be asked to wear red, white and blue clothes for the day and bring in their own teddy for our Teddy Bears’ picnic lunch which will be held with the rest of KS1 on the field that day. As Yr 2 all receive a free school lunch, their lunch for that day will be a picnic lunch box to enjoy outside with their friends but those of you who usually have a packed lunch are welcome to bring this as usual. We are asking parents for a contribution to PFTA funds of £1 for each child. The rest of the afternoon will be spent engaged in playground games, craft and fun activities all relating the the Platinum Jubilee. Please keep your fingers crossed for lovely weather and keep an eye out for the PTFA letter which will be sent home soon with further details! Many thanks.
