Fourth Sunday of Advent......Love

In this Fourth Week of Advent, our final days of preparation before Christmas, we ask Christ to forgive us for our sins and, through His grace, to create us anew when He comes. This week is also a time to recollect, to reflect on our Advent journey.

We hope that this last week of Advent is filled with the Love of the Season and you feel the Love of Lord within your homes and families.

All of the children have worked very hard this week, but these are the members of our class we have chosen to celebrate this week…..

Golden Award - Jacob for growing in confidence this half term and speaking out in front of the class. We are very proud of you!

Writing Award - Natalia for beautiful handwriting and using adventurous vocabulary in your own writing.

Maths Award - Charlotte for super addition and subtraction work all through this half term - a little Maths star!

This week we have been learning….

English - we started the week by finishing off our Nativity stories, I hope you enjoy reading these with the children. We then spent the rest of the week focusing on phonics and in particular, our split digraphs of a-e make a cake and i-e nice smile. These are tricky sounds to use in your own writing, but the chiildren have made good progress with this.

Maths - this week we have continued with our subtraction theme, using number line, part part whole model and ten frames to support our work. We have look at how subtraction questions must start with the whole number, but we have looked at how the equal sign can be used to change to order of how the calculation is wiring down. In Mental Maths we have continued to focus on number bonds to 10.

RE - this week we have focused on the Christmas story and Mary. We have reflected on the choice that Mary made and how she changed to course of history - we have tried to be like Mary by saying yes to people this week.

Arts and Crafts - we have had an arty week this week, making calendars and father Christmases - we really hope you love all the art work this children had made as much as we have all enjoyed making it!

Christmas Dinner……the children enjoyed their Christmas dinner yesterday and the panto in the afternoon! It was a lovely afternoon and a nice treat for the children. We have also enjoyed a film afternoon this week, watching ‘Finding Nemo’ yesterday as it fits in with our Under the Sea theme for this half term.

We hope that you enjoyed our Christmas Poem this week - we are so proud of the children and how clearly they spoke, how confident they were and how well they looked at the ipad when I was filming them. Well done Year 1 - what a lovely way to share the Christmas spirit.

Thank-you so much for all your support this term. For all the staff in school this term has been filled with uncertainly and worry, but the the children have helped to lift our spirits each day with their beautiful smiling faces and the way that they have just adapted to the situation we are in. We can learn a lot from them! Although we are still living through an extremely challenging period, we have done our best to ensure that school is a constant for the children. Thank-you for continued support and helping to keep us all safe - it means a great deal to us all.

May we take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy and Holy Christmas and all the best for the coming year. Let’s hope 2021 brings us a little peace. We look forward to welcoming the children back on Monday 4th January 2021 after a well earned rest.

Stay Safe over the festive period.
