Actions speak louder than words.....

This week we have been focusing on our actions and what they says about us. This has been the focus of our class assembly and also our prayers during the week - I though this Winnie the Pooh image summed it up beautifully. The children have made me very proud this week with how they have thoughts carefully about what they do as much as what they say. Another great week in Year 1.

This week we are celebrating……

Golden Award - Olivia for super art work - painting a great representation of the Princess and the Pea.

Writing Award - Hallie-Jayne for super independent writing work - amazing effort!

Maths Award - Gabriel for super work on greater than, less than and equal to.

This week we have been learning…..

English - this week we have read ‘Dogger’ by Shirley Hughes as we continued with our stories with familiar settings theme. We used this story to develop our sentence writing; we ordered the events of the story, remembered to use capital letters when writing names and did plenty of talk for writing. In Phonics we have worked on ‘oy’ ‘oa’ and ‘oo’ (as in moon). We have continued to work on our handwriting and worked hard in our Guided Reading groups.

Maths - this week we have been working on comparing numbers using the greater than, less than and equal to signs. We have used base ten to support this learning and the children have amazed me with their use of Maths language in our talk for learning. We have also worked on our mental Maths skills using numbers 0-10.

RE - we have continued our learning of the Creation story by thinking about how Adam and Eve behaved in the Garden of Eden and the wrong choices they made. We have also explored how we can look after God’s Wonderful World - the children had some super ideas.

Science - this week we have focused on our bodies and how we change as we grow, along with using our sense of sight to observe similarities and differences between us and our partners.

Topic - this week we investigated some wonderful old photographs of Blackpool and looked at what the Victorians did on their day trips to the seaside. The children were amazed by the clothes they wore to go to the beach!

Work at Home - please click on the link and this will take you to the Year 1 Homework Page - this is where Year 1 Work at Home will be posted from now on. http://www.ourladyassumption-sch.co.uk/yr1-homework

Other things to mention…

  • Thanks for the family photos - please continue to send these in, the board looks great

  • Class Dojo - many thanks for your emails - if you send me our email I will add it to the system. Class Dojo letters came home with the children tonight - there you will find a Login Code that you may find that you need to access the site. (Don’t know why the children’s names are on twice - sorry about that!)

  • PE - Monday and Wednesday. NO EARRINGS ON THESE DAYS PLEASE.

  • Don’t forget your child’s water bottle each day - thanks!

  • Please do not send your child into school if they are unwell or showing any signs of Covid 19 - we need to work together to keep each other safe. Many thanks for this.

And finally……..have a lovely weekend…..Mrs Hollinghurst, Mrs Veasey and Miss Collins
