Welcome to Year 6!

It has been so lovely to welcome all of the class back into school this week. They have all worked so hard, and have reminded me what a pleasure they all are to teach-I cannot wait for the year ahead. It will be even lovelier, on Monday, when we will have the whole class together again. I know how excited each group is to see the other half! Although there are some aspects around school that have changed, and feel ‘different’, they have all taken it in their stride, and made me so proud. They all know that everything in place is to help keep us all safe!

This week we have had in depth discussions about the new systems and routines in place at school, and they have all had a chance to share any emotions they have felt or are feeling about how life has changed within the last 6 months. We have talked about how important it is to share our emotions and be honest if we ever feel worried or unsure about anything-here at Our Lady’s, we are a family, and we are here to look after each other! We have also made a start with place value in Maths and we have been talking about what a biography is, in English, as an introduction to our first unit. The class have also taken their Star Reading Test, and now have their ZPDs. They will be coming home with their home readers, from Monday-please make sure their diaries are signed, when they do read at home. All in all, it has been a great week, and although they have only had three half days in school, we have managed to get through so much!

Notices

  • From Monday, if your child is part of a ‘family’ group (those who have siblings in school), they will be starting school at 8.40am and finishing at 3.15pm. The rest of Year 6 will be starting school at 8.50am (you must be on time, as other bubbles will be arriving shortly after this), and the school day ends at 3.20pm.

  • Our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit on these days.

  • The children need to bring their water bottle in daily, already filled with water. They will take their water bottle home at the end of each day to be cleaned.

  • Homework will be set online for the foreseeable (no book work). This will be mainly set via Bedrock, IXL, TT Rockstars and Education City. I will set homework on a Friday, which will be due for the following Wednesday.

  • If you need to contact me, please send me an e-mail to: year6@our-lady.blackpool.sch.uk

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and I look forward to seeing you all together on Monday!

Thank you,

Miss Slater & Mrs Murray
