He is Risen! (Week 3-Home Learning)

Good Morning and Happy Easter!

I hope you have all managed to have a lovely Easter break-we have been very lucky with the weather! I also hope that you managed to watch some of the services Fr Jim has been putting on the church website over Holy Week-in these times of isolation, it is comforting to know we can still unite in spirit through worship.

I would like to thank you all once again for working so hard from home and I hope you have enjoyed the well-earned break. I would also like to remind you that I will set work each week that I expect to be completed, as well as additonal/optional work, should you wish to do more. I have been monitoring online activity and I have noticed that not all of the class are accessing Bedrock and SumDog-please contact me (year6@our-lady.blackpool.sch.uk) if this is because you are having issues/problems with these, otherwise I do expect them to be completed from home. Can I also ask you to email me with Arithmetic and GPS scores, if you have not already-I set these as expected work in week 2.

Below, I will once again outline this week’s expected work, and additional resources.

Work I expect to be completed:

  • At least 2 Bedrock lesson

  • IXL at least 3 times throughout the week

  • Regular home reading

  • CPG Reading Paper (Click here for Mark Scheme)-please email me your scores

  • SumDog home tasks-this week I have set 15 new spellings, Antonyms & Synonyms, Times Tables. I have not set any Maths Focus on SumDog this week, as our focus is ratio (see below)

  • Maths-Ratio

This week, I would like the class to learn and complete activities on ratio. This is a concept we have not looked at in depth yet, therefore I have found a great resource that accompanies each activity with a video, explaining/teaching the concepts of ratio. If you clink on the link below, ‘Week 1’ is all on ratio. I would like all 5 lessons completed throughout the week. There is a video to go with each lesson and then an activity sheet for each lesson-the activity sheet can either be printed and completed, if this is possible, or answers can be written on a separate piece of paper.

(This is also another useful link that explains ratio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBrk566LBhc)

  • English-Writing

I am planning on continuing with our Romeo and Juliet Older Literature Unit that we should have been completing in class. You studied this play last year so you should already have a good knowledge of the text. Have a look at the PDF by clicking here. I want you to watch and listen to 3 clips that tell the story of Romeo and Juliet in different ways and then create an S Plan of the story. The S is like a journey of the key events within the play. Please email me pictures of your plan!

Additional/optional resources:

  • Learning Project- Week 3

  • I have set Maths, English & Science work on Education City- https://www.educationcity.com/

  • TT Rockstars- https://ttrockstars.com/

  • Espresso Learning- https://www.discoveryeducation.co.uk/what-we-offer/discovery-education-espresso

  • Oddizzi (Geography)-https://www.oddizzi.com/schools/login/ We were looking at the UK in Geography, so go on to ‘Country Close Up’ (under the EXPLORE THE WORLD section), and click on UK. There are lots of different aspects of the UK that you can explore from here.

Thank you your continued support, and please do not hesitate to contact me, via email, if you have any questions or would like any advice on the work set-keep the updates and pictures coming too, they always bring a smile to my face!

Take care and stay safe!

Miss Slater
