“I know a bank where the wild thyme blows" Oberon (A Midsummer Night's Dream act 2, scene 1)

We had an amazing trip to Stratford Upon Avon yesterday. The road was long but enjoyable and well worth it nevertheless. The children were fantastic and all had the best time and thoroughly enjoyed the performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Shakespeare’s language can confuse many adults but our work on the play enabled the children to follow the story and delight in the humour - it was great to see the children’s smiling faces and hear them laugh out loud!

A big thank you to all the adults who joined us on our trip to help make it possible, especially Miss Haggerty, Mrs Veasey and Mrs Wilson - the children were delighted to see them and share the day with them.

Our little visitors…

On Monday we were all very excited to welcome five duckling eggs to our class and one by one on Tuesday our ducklings began to hatch. We arrived to school on Tuesday to find two had hatched over night - Puck and Titania - and then during our maths lesson our third duckling, Oberon, hatched. By the end of the school day, our fourth duckling, Hermia, had arrived and by Wednesday morning our fifth duckling, Demetrius, completed our little family of ducklings. All the ducklings are named after some of the characters from A Midsummer Night’s Dream and have settled into their new home. They will be with us until the end of term and we look forward to watch them grow and take their first paddles in water!

Year 5’s Lenten prayer reflection in church

On Wednesday we went to church take part in a Lenten prayer reflection. Father talked to us about different types of prayer and talking to God. Father Frank talked about bidding prayers and how when we talk to God ,we don’t have to say much because God knows what is needed. Father passed a candle around church and each person was able to ask God for a blessing for someone who they know in need.

We also went to church this afternoon to share in Reception and KS1’s liturgy. Their Palm Sunday liturgy was wonderful. 👏🏻

Our learning this week…

In English we have explored the charcter of Puck and how his actions affect the other characters in the play

In maths this week we have continued looking at the perimeter of rectilinear shapes and have used known measurements to work out the measurements of missing sides.

In RE we have begun to look at the story of the Prodigal son and have started thinking about what it means.

This week’s prayer and liturgy was planned and led by Layla, Grace, Connie and Harriet. Their liturgy was on the theme of Sacrificing for others. The reading comes from the Gospel of John 12:20 - 33 and is about Jesus’ sacrificial love for us, and how children can emulate this in small ways in their day to day lives.

“Then a voice came from Heaven, “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again. ” John 20: 21

In geography the children are working with Mrs Mannix and have begun looking at latitude and longitude.

In PE the children are working with PE specialist Erin from Blackpool Football Club Community Trust. The focus of their lessons this half term is rounders.
