Resilience is the ability to bounce forward during tough times

Our learning this week…

In English the children have begun to write their stories in the style of Jeremy Strong.

The focus of our maths lessons this week has been rounding and comparing numbers to a million, looking at negative numbers and roman numerals.

In RE the children have read the story of ‘The Fall’, about Adam and Eve, and have discussed Original sin and how this has affected all of us in our lives.

In geography the children have been practising to find the latitude and longitude of places on a World map.

In computing this week the children learnt that binary can use the computer language ‘ASCII’ to represent characters and used this conversion of the alphabet from binary to write their own name and create messages.

In art the children have used acetate to overlay their own enlarged Hundertwasser images from last lesson. They used OHP pens, and oil pastels to add colour to the image and produce a layered effect.

In PE the children played two games: Goal ball and Kurling.

In our Bounce Forward session this week, we made a resilient moves box and the children wrote down some challenges to go in the box. Each week we will pick some out to challenge the children to create some resilient moves during the week. Every Bounce Forward session we always start the lesson by sharing the resilient moves that we have made over the course of the week and identifying which of the potions they come from on the resilient framework.

IMG_7612.JPG

This week’s resilient move challenges are:

  • Get enough sleep (Basics potion)

  • Make time to play and do hobbies (Basics potion)

Build your resilience

How many resilient moves can you make this week?

Use the resilient framework to identify the ones you and your family make. Resilience Framework

If you would like to share photos of your child making a resilient move, then send them to our email year5@our-lady.blackpool.sch.uk and I will post them here each week. For example, a photo of a bike ride - the resilient move would be fresh air and exercise which comes from the basic potion on the framework.
