We are now in May, the month of Mary. This month we plan for the children to create their own Rosary bead set to help us with our prayers.
The Rosary is a meditative prayer that reflects upon the life, ministry, and death of Jesus and also on His Blessed Mother. As we repeat the familiar prayers, we allow our minds to think about the lives of Jesus and Mary here on earth – a mystery.
The Mysteries
There are four parts to the rosary, known as ‘mysteries’:
The Luminous Mysteries
The Sorrowful Mysteries
The Glorious Mysteries
The Joyful Mysteries
For each set of mysteries, we are introduced to five different elements or ‘snapshots’ of the lives of Jesus and Mary. Each snapshot taken from Scripture is an opportunity to reflect and pray. To respond, we pray a set of prayers, which together with the reflection is called a ‘decade’. The prayers we say as part of this set begin with one Our Father, followed by ten Hail Marys and one Glory Be to finish. We use the beads of the Rosary to keep track of our prayers!

In English, the children will begin to narrate their own refugee narrative.
We started our new class book today, Raven’s Gate written by Anthony Horowitz. It is the first book in a series called The Power of Five. I hope this will encourage more reading for pleasure at home, there are lots of books in the series that the children may wish to read.
In Maths, we are looking at money and using our decimal knowledge to help with this.
In Science, we are continuing our learning about states of matter.
The children also have their mini olympics event at St Mary’s on Wednesday and a Fit2Go event at Blackpool Football Club on Thursday. An exciting week and lots of opportunities to represent our school.
We will mark VE day on Thursday 8th May, but our class will need to come in their full PE Kit due to the Fit2Go festival in the afternoon, please.
The Homework page has been updated with spellings, please practise these for the spelling test on Monday.

At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters
Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.
This month’s online safety guide gives helpful advice about…
What Parents and Educators Need to Know about Making Friends Online This free guide looks at the challenges of children forming friendships online, highlighting key risks such as grooming, privacy concerns and inappropriate content — and offers tips for staying safe.
What Parents and Educators Need to Know about ZEPETO This free guide explores ZEPETO, a fast-growing virtual world app. It highlights the associated risks for younger users, such as chatting with strangers, exposure to inappropriate content, and spending real money.
We hope you find these guides informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all. Thank you.

Please continue to encourage your children to read a minimum of 3 times per week and pop it in their reading logs. They will receive a golden ticket for this each week and at the end of this half term, one person will win a prize!
