'Whatsoever He says to you, do it.' John 2:5

Good afternoon everyone,

This week in our liturgies we have been looking at how Jesus changed from a seemingly normal person into a man who would perform amazing miracles with God’s power. In RE we learned about Jesus’ baptism and in our liturgies we learned about a wedding Jesus attended not long after this, where He was able to perform His first miracle in turning water into wine.

We heard how Jesus was reluctant to do this and was worried that He was not ready, but did as His mother asked. This reminds us that in our own lives, we may not feel that we are strong enough, brave enough or clever enough but that with Jesus and Mary’s guidance, we can acheive great things!

English - In English we have been analysing the Bog Baby story and have now began our exploration of the example text. We have looked at key vocabulary, answered comprehension questions and have planned and begun writing non-chronological reports about the Bog Baby.

Maths - In Maths we have been working on money. Our focus has been on being confident in recognising coins and notes, both pence and pounds and being able to count amounts of pence or pounds by putting the money in order from largest to smallest value and counting on. We have also began to count combinations of pounds and pence and have learned the importance of keeping these amounts separate.

Science - In Science we explored a number of different habitats and identified living things we might find there, classifying them into groups.

RE - In RE, we have been looking at water as a symbol of a fresh start and a new life. We have done this through an examination of Noah’s Ark, Jesus’ Baptism and the Sacrament of Baptism. We have also explored the story of Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness.

Geography - We learned about some key human features present on islands and considered their importance.

PE - Our Wednesday PE session worked on tennis game skills. Our Friday PE session focused upon travelling and balancing.

Computing - We type our names and explored text formatting, including font style, font size and font colour; as well as bold, italic and underline formatting. We have also learned how to search for, copy and paste images into a word document.

Please continue to practise counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s. Please continue to use TTRockstars to practise times tables.

Please practise the year 1 and year 2 common exception words sent home before half term. The children need to be able to read and write (spelling correctly) each one of these by the end of year 2.

Spelling

There are 15 common exception words to practise this week. I will choose 10 for our test next week.

Times Table

No formal test but please continue to practise 2, 3s, 5s and 10s. Particularly the 3s as these are the trickiest!

Maths

Counting coins worksheets.

English

Animal comprehension booklet.

Year 2 PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Friday. Please come to school in PE kit on these days.

Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 2 have green tops.

I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Bowdell and Miss Andrew and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson.

Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Bowdell and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.

Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it creates fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.

School bags - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don’t not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.

13.2.25 - The school council has decided to run 'What I would like to be when I leave school' day in order to raise funds for CAFOD. They are asking children to dress up as someone they would like to be when they grow up on Thursday 13th February 2025. This can be anything so please do not feel like you have to buy a costume for this occasion, props from home or a simple paintbrush in hand (if they wish to be a painter) will do perfectly.  A contribution of £1 is now live to pay on ParentPay and will go towards raising money for CAFOD.

ADVANCED NOTICE….

17.3.25 - Parent/Teacher Meetings - please keep an eye out for the email giving you information on booking a slot. These meetings will run from 1-5pm and will be an opportunity for us to catch up on your child’s learning and how you can support them at home.
