'God Will Always Provide.' - Philippians 4:19

Good afternoon everyone,

This week our worship has focused on St Paul’s advice in a letter to the Philippians, which has the message that we can turn to God at any time. If we are worried, or we want to share something, we can always speak to God through prayer. We can trust God to always be there to listen if we take the time to stop and speak to Him from the heart.

We have been encouraging the children to speak to God and to think about their own prayers. We have had some children bringing in and reading the lovely prayers they have written at home for us all to focus on in our worship.

English - This week for our work on explanation texts we have focused upon question sentences, ‘did you know…?’ type questions, sequences events using appropriate time phrases and extracting information from an explanation text. All this will help prepare us for writing our own frog life cycle explanation texts next week.

Maths - In Maths we have counted in 2s, 5s and 10s seperately and have also completed activities where we have had to decide which steps to count in with a mixture. We then focused on a trickier count - 3s.

Science - We learned about the life cycle of a butterfly. We wrote sentences to describe it and thought about the similarities and differences between that and a hen’s life cycle.

RE - We wrote our own versions of the story of Baby Moses. We also focused upon the link between Abraham and Moses and how Moses life and being chosen showed that God was fulfilling his promise to Abraham.

History - We learned about how the Great Fire started and why it lasted for so long. We also designed our own London house which we hoped would do better in a fire.

PE - Our indoor PE sessions focused upon dance and our outdoor session focused on throwing and catching skills.

Computing - We designed and described our own machines for a specific job, thinking about their inputs and outputs.

Art - We explored mark making in different ways to create textures.

Please continue to practise counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s.

Spelling

Group A - the ou and ow words.

Group B - the ou words.

Handwriting

Please practise writing the spelling words using cursive writing.

Maths

Please continue to practise counting in 2s, 3s 5s and 10s.

I have also sent home some work on this.

Year 2 PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Friday. Please come to school in PE kit on these days.

Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 2 have green tops.

I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Bowdell and Miss Andrew and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson.

Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Bowdell and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.

Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it create fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.

School bags - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don’t not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.

You will have received notification about Parent/Teacher meetings on MONDAY 16th OCTOBER - please make sure you follow the link to make an appointment. This is an important meeting to discuss how your child has settled into Year 2, the progress they are making and what you can do to support them at home. I look forward to seeing you all on this date. Thank you

This year we are collecting tinned food for the local food bank. We are asking each child to bring in one tin for our collection. Please donate, if you can, for this very worthy cause. The children can bring their tins into class, where we have a donation box. Many thanks to those who have donated already
