Good afternoon everyone,
It all seems to have gone by so very quickly but we have reached the end of Year 2… and of Key Stage 1! It has been a very busy year for us but also one filled with lots of happy and wonderful memories which I hope we all cherish forever. I am very proud of all the children; how far they have come, what they have achieved and how much they have grown. I wish them a summer holiday filled with play and laughter and a happy and memorable Year 3 experience with Mrs Parker and Mrs Holden!
As I always say to the children - my door is always open if they want to pop in for a chat and to tell me all the exciting things they are doing.
English - We finished our work on persuasive writing by exploring alliteration, using it effectively to persuade and we created our own alliterative poem.
Maths - In Maths we completed our work on weight and mass and have been explooring volume and capacity.
Science - We applied our knowledge of materials to build our own bridges and see how much weight they could hold.
RE - In RE, we looked at Judaism with a focus on Jewish religious law and evidence that Jesus was Jewish.
History - We made our own model stone keep castles.
PE - We enjoyed some free PE time!
Computing - We finished off our work on stop motion and animation.
Well done to all those who took part in Our Lady’s Got Talent on Thursday morning. It was such a lovely morning for all of us. A special well done to our very talented Year 2 performers…

You all did us proud!
Please enjoy the summer break. This is a time for play and making memories so there will be no homework set.
All I ask is that you READ as regularly as you can.

Year 2 PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Friday. Please come to school in PE kit on these days.
Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 2 have green tops.
I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Mrs Bowdell and Mrs Gilheaney and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson.
Party Invitations - I am afraid that Mrs Bowdell and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.
Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it creates fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.
School bags - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don’t not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.
We would just like to express our sincerest gratitude to you for your continued support this year. It really does “take a village to raise a child” and the partnership between us at school and the adults at home is so important. It has been lovely to have seen your own hard work in supporting your child’s learning this year.
Thank you also to those of you who wrote wonderful notes and gave lovely gifts. We have been overwhelmed by your care and kindness and greatly appreciate the thought and time you have given to us.
It has truly been a pleasure and a privilege to support your children this year.
Tuesday 2nd September - Children return to school.
Have a lovely summer and we look forward to seeing you all again in September,
Mr Whetnall, Mrs Bowdell, Miss Murray and Mrs Gilheaney
