'Bethlehem was God with us, Calvary was God for us and Pentecost is God in us.' - Robert Baer

Good afternoon everyone,

This week we have been learning about Pentecost and the amazing gifts that were given to the apostles. We learned that, although the Bible explains that the apostles were given the gift of languages, the real gift was the confidence of the Lord to go out into the world and teach people Jesus’ important messages of love and forgiveness. To earn this, the apostles had to give themselves to God, belief in what he was asking from them and try to live in a good way. We learned how the Holy Spirit is also given to us if we follow Jesus’ example and try to make the right choices regularly. We learn that the more good we do, the more good we will want to do and the happier we will feel!

English - This week we wrote our return narrative stories based on Grandad’s Island. The children worked hard on using powerful verbs, descriptive sentences and time phrases.

Maths - In Maths we focused upon unit and non-unit fractions and spent a few days on the tricky topic of finding three quarters and other non-unit fractions.

Science - We completed our seed and bulb growth investigation; as well as our plant’s needs investigation where we learned that plants need both sun and water to grow but can grow with just water. We also learned about the various ways seeds can be dispersed and why this is important.

Computing - We applied our skills to create other stop motion animations.

PE - In our first PE lesson, we played small games of rounders. In our second lesson, we focused on our fundamental movement skills of jumping and over-arm throwing.

Art - We created black and white pictures with a focus on Bridget Riley.

Please continue to practise the Year 1 and 2 Common Exception Words - both reading and spelling!

Please practice learning the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables as later this half term we will be having times table tests on these.

Other Tasks

As it is half term, I will not be setting any homework but please continue to practise your 3 and 4 times tables.

WE HAVE NOTICED THAT SEVERAL CHILDREN SEEM TO HAVE STOPPED READING AT HOME. PLEASE CONTINUE READING AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. THE BRAIN IS A MUSCLE AND, JUST LIKE OTHER MUSCLES, IT NEEDS TO BE WORKED REGULARLY TO MAKE SURE IT STAYS AT ITS STRONGEST. THANK YOU!

Golden Award - Priya - for trying hard to take responsibility and listen carefully.

Writing Award - Finlay - for an amazing return narrative.

Maths Award - Alicia - super reasoning about fractions.

We hope you have a lovely half term and we will look forward to seeing you on Monday 12th June for our last half term in Year 2!
