'Let all that you do be done in love.' 1 Corinthians 16:14

Good afternoon everyone,

We are nearly in our final week of Advent. Hasn’t the time flown? This coming week, please take a moment to think about those we love and have a think about all the things people do for us, and we do for them, which shows this. Jesus loves us and brings us his special gift of love, he made the ultimate sacrifice to show just how much He loves us. We are so lucky to be loved by others and to be able to love them back!

It has been a rather different and unusual term so far but we have worked so hard together to make the most of it and it has been so wonderful to see the children adapting and thriving in their new routines. This hasn’t been easy for any of us but especially not for the children and we cannot express enough how proud we are of them and their resilience and maturity in the face of difficult times. You should all be very proud of them!

This week we have been working as hard as ever and have completed some wonderful work!

In English, we have been in our Read Write Inc groups and have been writing letters about a missing pet that we have made up! We have some very interesting pets including snowmen, dragons and reindeer!

In Maths, we have looked at adding when crossing ten by making the next ten and then adding on the rest. This is quite a tricky thing to do and we will need a little more practice after half term but we have done very well so far.

In Science, we have been writing a non chronological report all about a world habitat. I’ve been blown away by the detail the children have put into these and we have decided to make a classroom display to show them off!

In RE, we have looked at some of the symbols of Advent and what they represent. We discussed and wrote about what we included in our Advent wreaths.

As it was the end of term, we have also had some fun. We made Christmas cards and calendars. On Thursday, we had Golden Time as our Class Dojo reward and made lots of Christmas things and in the afternoon, we watched the ‘Cinderella’ Pantomime. We really enjoyed it! On Friday, we had our reward for winning the quiz - we watched a movie with popcorn! What a super end to the term.

Homework

As it is half term, I will not be setting homework. However, we have not yet taken this week’s spelling test so if you would like to practice these over half term, feel free! You can also access Oxford Owl for any extra reading you would like.

Awards

Golden Award - all of Year 2! - for settling in and working so hard over this term and for a wonderful ‘mini Nativity’

Writing Award - Isaac - for a neat, detailed habitat report in Science.

Maths Award - Elsie - for always embracing a challenge in her Maths work.

We hope you all have a peaceful, merry and Holy Christmas with your loved ones. Please have fun but stay safe. We look forward to seeing you in January.

Take care,

Mr Whetnall and Mrs Bowdell
