"He is Risen!" Matthew 28

He is Risen: The Resurrection in Matthew 28

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundation of the Christian faith. Without the resurrection, the belief in God's saving grace and mercy through Jesus is void. When Jesus rose from the dead, he proved his divinity as the Son of God and his works of atonement, redemption, reconciliation, and salvation. The resurrection was a real, physical raising of Jesus’ body from the dead.

English - we have continued on with our RWI lessons. During these sessions we all focus on phonics, reading, spelling and sentence development. We have also been working on our pre-cursive handwriting in which we focus on how to write our letters, starting on the line. We are continuing to work hard on our common exception words, reading them in class every day!

Maths - this week we have worked on subtraction both within and outside of the ten barrier. We have used counters on ten frames and number lines to help us with our work this week. The children have become good spotters…looking at the ones first to see whether they need to cross the 10 barrier. Great work this week Year 1!

Science - this week we completed our Seasonal Change topic by examining each of the seasons and describing some of its features. We have also looked at the amount of daylight hours even season typically contains and made up our own pictogram.

Art - the children’s work this week has been inspired by the artist Patrick Heron and his hot and cold series. We have also made Easter cards and chick baskets!

RE -Holy Week -Our focus this week has been the story of Holy Week and how Jesus sacrificed Himself for us. We have spoken about forgiveness and how this should be our key word of the season.

History - this week we investgated the history of the teddy bear, when they were created and some famous bears that we all know and love. We made a timeline of famous bears and loved telling our friends about our special bears. Thank-you for your support with the last minute decision for the children to bring in their own bears….they loved having them in class for the day!

Many congratulations to KS2 this week - their reflections have been beautiful, reflective and poignant.

We would like to invite you to share a special Good Friday reflection for children and families on Good Friday, 18th April, at 11am at Our Lady’s Parish Church. This is within the school Easter Holiday. This will be an opportunity to stop and to share the last journey of Jesus and what we learn about the people who he met at each stage. This is a very positive reflection. In school Year 5 will share a version of this with the pupils but it would be lovely if you could join us within the parish on Good Friday. The service will start at 11am and will be approximately 40 minutes. Children from Key Stage 2 will be reading. We look forward to seeing you. Thanking you in advance for your continued interest and support. Mrs Mannix

Many congratulations to this weeks winners….

Golden Award - Briar for showing a very respectful attitude this week to those around her, her work and her environment. Lovely to see Briar.

Writing Award - Esmae for the most detailed and reflective writing on the stories of Holy Week - I have been very impressed young lady. .

Maths Award - Blake for super effort in his subtraction work this week - remembering to use the equipment that will help him to find the solution to a problem.

General pieces of information

  • PE will be on Monday and Friday so please send the children into class in the PE kits on those days. No earrings can be worn for PE so please ensure that they are taken out at home.

  • Trainers - if your children is wearing trainers with laces for PE they must be able to tie them by themselves. This is a health and safety issue - please ensure your child can tie their laces before sending them in lace-up trainers.

  • Water bottles - all the children were given a new school bottle this week. This will come home each night to be cleaned and re-filled. Please only use the school bottles and ensure your child brings theirs each day. Lost water bottles can be replaced at the school office, but I am afraid you will have to pay for those. Year 1 have orange tops.

  • I will not be in class on a Thursday afternoon, as it is my release time. This will be covered by Miss Evans and Mrs Connolly and is also when the children will have Music with Mrs Watson.

  • Party Invitations - I am afraid that Miss Evans and I will not be able to give out party invitations in class. Please do not send your child into class with them for them to give out - it creates upset and fuss about something that takes place outside of school.Thank-you for your understanding with this matter.

  • Key Rings - please do not put key rings onto your child’s school bag, it create fuss in class and then upset if they are lost.

  • School bag - please continue to use the red book bag that your child was given in Reception, we don not have the room to store large bags. Many thanks for your help with this matter.

  • Homework Expectations - please see the Homework page for what I expect the children to do at home…..don’t worry, it’s mainly just reading!! HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS - YEAR 1 — Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Primary

As a school, we are always looking for ways to improve children’s engagement with reading and this last half term, more children in Year 5 have been reading regularly as part of our Lent challenge, so during the Summer term, the whole school will be taking part in a reading challenge.

Children will receive a golden ticket each time they read and get their reading diary signed three times in a week. At the end of each half term, during our celebration assembly, we will draw a golden ticket from each class’s box, and one winner from each class will receive a reward.

Please encourage your child to read regularly and bring in their signed reading diary so they can start collecting their golden tickets. Thank you for your support.

At Our Lady's we like to support our parents/carers in Online Safety matters.

Keeping children and young people safe online is one of the biggest challenges facing society today and it is all of our responsibility to ensure that children are educated to make positive, informed choices when they are online.

This month’s online safety guide gives helpful advice about…

What Parents and Educators Need to Know about Search Engines  This free guide highlights the risks search engines pose to children – such as exposure to inappropriate content, misinformation, and scams – and provides practical tips to help keep them safe online. We hope you find this guide informative and helpful in promoting the positive use of technology to make the online world a better and safer place for us all.

We are delighted to be able to share with you the Good News Gospel readings for families. Please follow the link to share the Gospel at home with your family.
