'Trust in the Lord with all your heart.' Proverbs 3:5

We have had super week in Year 1 thinking of how lucky we are to be loved by God. God Our Father has shown us how much He loves through the creation of the world and placing HIs faith in us to take care of it. We have thought about how people do not always do this and what we can do to right this wrong. Year 1 have come up with us super ideas. We are also thinking about how special we are to God and how each one of us is created in His Imagine.

This week we have been learning…

English - we have continued with our RWI groups, focusing in on phonics, spelling, reading and independent writing. The children are all making good progress with this in their groups. We continue to work on our pre-cursive handwriting, our pencil grip, the spelling of common exception words and how to use capital letters correctly.

Maths - we have been focusing on number order, which number comes next and one more and one less. We are focusing on numbers to 10 in this work so we can really embed these concepts. In is important to be really clear about this language and how to use a number line, number track or ten frame to support this work. In our Fluent in Five work we have been working on number bonds to 10, addition and subtraction up to 10 and doubling and halving.

RE - this week we have focused on the wonderful world that God created and how, sometimes, people do not always look after the world. We have thought about how we can change this and what we can do. We have also considered the creation of Adam and Eve and how we are all created in God’s imagine.

Science - this week we have focused on our senses and which part of our body we use for each sense.

History - this week we have looked at some main events in our lives and ordered them on a timeline. We also started to look at how humans change as they age and placed these pictures on a timeline too.

Art - we love our Thursday afternoons! Take a look at this week’s painting in the photos at the end of the blog.

We are very proud of all of the children, but these are the pupils we are celebrating this week…

Golden Award - Jessie for being an excellent role model in Year 1 and showing fabulous behaviour for learning

Writing Award - George for having beautiful handwriting and working really hard on his pre-cursive letters

Maths Award - Alicia for super work this week on one more and one less

Teachers continue to wear face masks in shared areas and visors in class

  • Children are required to wash their hands when they come in school and when they return after play - as well as before lunch.

  • Children in Year 1 have their own bag of pencils and materials to minimise the amount of sharing of equipment.

  • Books are still being put aside for 72 hours. before been given to another child if they have gone home.

  • Please can you ensure that you do not send your child to school if they are showing ANY symptoms of Covid 19 or are UNWELL IN ANY WAY. Please take them for a test if they have Covid symptoms or do a lateral flow at home- we all have to continue to do our bit to keep everyone safe and keep the children in school. Many thanks for your support with this matter.

If your child is isolating from school due to Covid 19 and they are well enough to work, you can find their work on the HOME LEARNING page of the Year 1 section of the website. I have using Oak Academy units as they all contain a little video and a task for the children to complete that does not require you to print anything - your child just needs a piece of paper and a pencil!! And maybe some colours for the art activities! https://www.ourladyassumption-sch.co.uk/yr1-home-learning

Please DO NOT send the work into school with your child on their return, but send photos of it through Class Dojo and add work to your child’s profile. You will each get an invite to this through the email you gave to school when your child was in Reception.

If your child is off school, please inform the office and NOT the Year 1 email or Class Dojo. Many thanks

And finally……any questions or queries either catch me or Mrs Veasey at the gate or email using year1@our-lady.blackpool.sch.uk.

Thanks so much for all the lovely family photos you have sent in - our topic board looks great!

Please remember that it is School Photograph day on Monday 27th September. As the children didn’t have a group photo taken in Reception, they will have one taken on Monday. To ensure all the children look the same, please send your child in wearing their normal school uniform and NOT their PE kit. Many thanks.

Have a lovely weekend……Mrs Hollinghurst and Mrs Veasey
