Thank-you so much to all of you for the wonderful costumes the children came to school in today. The children all looked fab and the outfits helped us to get into the theme of the day. We have learnt how to say hello, good morning, good afternoon, please, thank-you, yes and no and have learnt to count to 10! I hope the children can remember some of these by the time they get home today!!

I am just waiting for a couple of photo permission forms to be returned to school and then I will be able to put the pictures I have taken of the day on this page. if you haven’t returned your forms, please could I ask you to do asap. Thank-you.

A number of the children have received prizes today from Mrs McVey for their coloured Rainbow Fish - and also for super colouring of their Italian flags and Pinocchio models. Well done to you!

The children have all worked hard this week, but these are the children we are celebrating with certificates…

Golden Award -

Writing Award -

Maths Award -

This week we have been learning…..

English - we are continuing to work in our RWI groups for phonics, reading and sentence construction. As a class we are working on our pre-cursive handwriting and using capital letters and full stops in our own writing.

Maths - this week we have been working on one more and one less. We have used number tracks, cubes and counters on our ten frames to help us with this.

RE - this week we have re-told the story of Adam and Eve in our own words.

Science - we have been looking at the characteristics of fish and amphibians.

Topic - we are making our own family trees.

SCHOOL TRIP TO THE ZOO! Your child should have brought home at letter regarding our trip to the zoo on FRIDAY 11TH OCTOBER. Many thanks to the PTFA for helping to fund this trip - they have really helped to keep the costs down. I have also been able to take advantage of a special offer at the zoo for Blackpool schools this half term - all of which has meant that I have only had to ask you for a contribution of just £5. Thank-you to all of you who have returned their slip and donation already - much appreciated. We are very excited about this day!

Work at home - if you have the chance then please work on pencil grip and handwriting - letter formation and pre-cursive letters. Plenty of reading please and for Maths, then one more and one less than numbers up to 10. Thank-you.

Have a lovely weekend….Mrs Hollinghurst and the Year 1 team
