It is hard to believe we are at the end of yet another half term. Personally, I feel like this half term has by far been the quickest and it does not seem like 2 minutes ago that we were coming back after Easter. It is starting to become more real now that we will soon be saying goodbye to the children as they prepare themselves for Year 1. Time goes so quickly in Reception, but I love this time of year as we can see so clearly just how much progress the children have made this year. I hope you can see it too.
Next half term will be our busiest yet. When I look at the calendar it makes me slightly nervous as to how I’m going to make it all happen! But I will! We have a visit from the dental nurses, sports day, a trip to the zoo (more details to follow), a ‘journey to wild island’ role play day (again, more details to follow), our graduation assembly and our lady’s has talent. As well as all our learning on top of that! You should have received an email this week with key dates for your diaries including some of the events mentioned above.
The children continue to amaze us with their reading and writing. This term, we have started a new incentive where the children receive golden tickets for reading at home (one ticket per week for reading at least three times at home) and those tickets will then go into a pot until the final day of term (today!). Then, in assembly, one name per class is chosen and those children will receive a £5 book token. All the children in our class deserve to win but I am excited to see who is picked today.
In Maths we have focused on comparison and composition this term. The children love Maths and they are so enthusiastic about their learning. They have enjoyed learning about the composition of each number up to 10, solidifying our number bonds along the way.
Some of our themes this term have been bees, Florence Nightingale and VE Day. The children asked some wonderful questions about WW1 and WW2.
We also started our happy hearts club. Each week we focus on a different area of PSHE (so far we have looked at self care and routine, friendship and being calm and mindful). This is all done through a story of a pet shop and the children have really engaged with this.
May is the month of Mary and we wanted to celebrate this in school. Father Frank came in to talk to us about Mary and how special she is; and we decided as a school to make our own rosary beads. The children loved this activity and their buddies came to help them.
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you again for your kind donations to Cafod in aid of me running the London Marathon this year. I’m still blown away by all of the support! In total I raised nearly £3500 and my original target was £2000. So thank you very much! I couldn’t have done it without you!
Have a lovely break and I look forward to seeing you all upon our return,
Miss Heim-Sarac 🌷🌻
