Next week (Monday 2nd March) we are beginning our school Readathon. Each child will be given a sponsor form to be sponsored to read any books of his/her choice. This is a fabulous opportunity to promote reading for pleasure and at this time of year we are considering how we can help and support others in need. Please take some time to look at the Readathon website to find out more.

Last week two of our Year 4 children, Amélie and Olivia, had the wonderful opportunity to join Mrs Ormerod in her work with the Royal Shakespeare Company. They travelled to Stratford-Upon-Avon and spent two days working alongside  the RSC to become our very own Shakespeare Ambassadors. The two days were spent working on the play 'Love's Labour's Won', also known as 'Much Ado About Nothing'. The girls worked on various scenes from the play and were extremely fortunate to work alongside the leads from the play, Edward Bennett and Michelle Terry, who play Benedict and Beatrice. In the evening the girls were then treated to front row seats to watch them in action.

During their two days, the girls worked with children from other schools across the country to share the successful Shakespeare projects we have already undertaken in school, and to communicate how we will move it forward. The girls, alongside Mrs Ormerod, now look forward to working in their role as Shakespeare Ambassadors to share their experience and new skills with the rest of the school.

The children's attendance in school is something which is of utmost importance to us and here at Our Lady of the Assumption we celebrate everyone's achievement for attendance during our Friday 'Golden' Assembly.

Each week every class' attendance is announced with the 'winning' class - the class with the highest attendance for that week, receiving an extra playtime because of their achievements.

For all the children who have attended school every day during that week, and attended on time - ie been in class ready for registration at 8.55am - all names are collected and 1 person's name pulled out in assembly to win their choice of a new book.

We will record class attendance weekly and publish on the website along with the individual winner of that week.
