This week we have been working on multiplying and dividing numbers by 10 to include decimals. The children have worked very hard on this all week, but a little extra work never hurt anyone!

Encourage your child to think about digits moving place value position, so 20 would become 2 if divided by 10 because it has been made 10 times smaller by moving from the tens position to a unit position.

When dividing by 10 encourage your children to talk about digits moving into the tenths position and ask them to tell the value of this digit as a fraction and a decimal. (It is very important that we stress to children that digits move around the decimal point as the decimal point NEVER MOVES! We also NEVER talk about adding a 0 onto a digit if we times it by 10.)

Good Luck...I am confident your child will be able to tell you exactly what we have been looking at this week!
