This half term Blackpool Football Club will be coming in to school on a Thursday lunchtime to teach the Year 3 children Tag Rugby. This is open to the whole class but is not compulsory. Please can you speak to your child tonight to see if this is something they would like to take part in?

If so; it will begin tomorrow. The children will already be in their P.E. kits so there is no need to send in anything extra with them.

Please note that there is no charge for this activity.

Thank you

This week the children have been starting on our new and exciting reading programme in school called Accelerated Reader. The children take an online reading test which gives them a ZPD (zone of proximal development - a range of books that will challenge your child without causing any frustration). This is in the form of a number range and each child will have a different ZPD. This is because the test looks at the children's own personal reading skills and determines from that what range of books they can read. Please note this number is not a reading age. For example; a ZPD may be something like 1.8-2.4.

Most of the books in school now have a corresponding ZPD attached to them and your child will be able to pick books to read from within their own ZPD. Initially, your child will be picking books from the lower range of their ZPD and over time will start to work towards the top end of their ZPD.

Once the children have read a book they will take a quiz online. Each book has a certain number of points attached to it and the children will gain a proportion of these points depending on how they do on the quiz. The quiz is designed to test the children's comprehension of the book they have just read.

The children will be bringing these books home to read and will also be bringing home their reading record. I have asked the children to make notes in their reading record each time they have read the book to keep track of what is happening as they will be able to refer back to these while they are quizzing.

During our Meet the Teacher on Thursday I will discuss Accelerated Reader in more detail and will also give you information as to how you can log in online and see your child's progress.

The children are settling in to Year 3 and the routines it brings very well. Today, after working very hard on our lining up on the playground, the children found out that they had been awarded the most lining up stars in the Juniors and had an extra day on the trim trail. They were overjoyed! Let's keep it up Year 3.

In Maths we have been looking at ordering and partitioning numbers. All of the children are trying their best and having a go at the challenges in each lesson.

On Wednesday the children had their weekly Music lesson with Mrs Bird and have started to learn a 'Forces' song. The children have also had their first Spanish lesson with Mrs McVey this week which they thoroughly enjoyed.

Our Golden Award this week went to Tia for settling in to Year 3 so beautifully.

Our Writing Award this week went to Mya for producing some lovely handwriting in all of her books.

Our Maths Award went to Claire for trying so hard in every piece of work she completes.

This coming Thursday, the 21st September, there will be a Meet the Teacher after school for you to ask me any questions you may have as well as to go over the expectations in school and the way we work in Year 3. It will be lovely to hopefully meet those of you that I haven't met already.

Have a lovely weekend.

It has been lovely to welcome the children back to school this week as Year 3's. They have all settled in beautifully and I can already tell we are going to have a lovely year together.

This week the children have been looking at friendship and helping to solve some friendship problems we may come across. Part of this was talking about friendship tokens and how when we give out friendship tokens we receive lots back. It has been so nice to see the children then following up on this by going out of their way to be nice to their classmates and then coming to share their successes with me.

In R.E. we have been looking at Family and how we are all part of God's Family. The children shared with the class the things they like to do with their families and also thought of special times they have shared together. They made some beautiful cards to take home to say Thank You to their families for creating these memories for them.

Our topic in History this term is The Stone Age to The Iron Age. The children are very excited about this and we have started to read Stig of the Dump together to learn about Stig the caveman and his friendship with Barney. In P.E.; the children were creating movements and sequences to reflect The Flintstones characters (they are, after all, the modern Stone Age family!).

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.
