This week we visited St Mary’s Catholic High School for our annual year 3 open air Mass to celebrate Corpus Christi. The sun was shining down on us throughout and the children behaved beautifully. Myself, Miss Haggerty and Father Jim were extremely proud of them all. After Mass, we processed around the grounds of the school with the Blessed Sacrament present in the Monstrance in to the Christ the King Church. It really was a beautiful moment, with all schools singing ‘O Sacrament Most Holy’ throughout. Once inside the Church we took part in Benediction. By this time there were a few rumbling tummies and we got to eat our lunches outside on the field. A lovely day had by all!

This week we have started our volcano challenge! The children are in teams of 5 (picked themselves) and can earn points in various ways to move around a path on the volcano. The first team to the ash cloud will win the grand prize. There will also be prizes to earn along the way. The children can earn points by making the right choices during lesson time, reading nightly at home, handing in homework on time and completing reading quizzes. Good luck!

As always, we have been working super hard during our lessons…

Maths - we have continued to look at time and have also been timing ourselves doing different activities using a stop watch.

English - this week we have written tongue twisters and micro poems; and have been introduced to a performance poem called the Water Cycle.

Science - we have looked at skeletons and sorted animals by their skeleton type.

History - we finished our work on gods and goddesses.

Geography - we learnt about farming and how much of the UK is farmland. We also looked at DEFRA surveys to work out why certain crops and different breeds of animal are present in parts of the UK.

P.E. - we continue to practice for Sports Day - 5th July.

A busy week indeed!

Congratulations to Lila and Lennon who took part in the county tennis final in Preston today. Unfortunately they were knocked out of the competition in the morning but we are so proud of them for getting as far as they did. A big congratulations also to Eliza and Adam who took part in the KS2 Spelling Bee on Monday. I was so proud of them!

Award winners this week are:
