This is the second year that Our Lady of the Assumption have been linked with the RSC through my training, PG Cert in advanced teaching of Shakespeare, with Warwick University and the Royal Shakespeare Company. In this second year the aim is to create a cross curricular show case event featuring work from all the cluster schools. This event will showcase original text performances, music, dance as well as work from academic and art lessons. This will be a free event open to the public in a central location, to be confirmed in the near future.
The theme for the project will be war and conflict and the text I have chosen for the children to explore is ‘Macbeth’. I aim to include both year 3 and year 4 in the project and will keep you informed as to the student workshops that will be available, such as stage fighting and access to a session with the RSC!
I am sure you will agree that this is an exciting opportunity for the children and I would like them to gain an Arts Award for their commitment and hard work. The Arts Award is a portfolio of work collected over the duration of the project which is examined and the award given is accredited with Arts Council England and Trinity College London. These awards can be built on over their time in education to gain UCAS points for the future.
I look forward to the project and hope that you will support us in this exciting project.
