The children have all been working hard this week, but these are the children who have particularly shone....

Golden Award - Eliza for meeting the challenge of walking towards Jesus during this period of Lent. Eliza is working hard everyday to carry out her Lent promise and become closer to Jesus. Well done!

Writing Award - Georgina for writing a detailed, thoughtful and reflective piece of writing all bout Mass. We have been learning about what we do when we go to Mass and what it reminds us of and Georgina put all this in her work beautifully.

Maths - Adam for applying all his knowledge of doubles to his fractions work, finding double and half of a number.

This week we have been learning....

English - we have started our new topic on Traditional stories and the language they use. We have been concentrating on the adjectives used to describe characters and the imagines that the writer creates in our minds with the words they use. We have used these adjectives in our own descriptive piece of writing about a chosen character.

Maths - we have been working on finding a fraction of a number, learning that the bottom number (the demoninator) tells us how many equal pieces we need. We have talked a lot about the need to be fair, to be balanced, to be equal. We have also started our work on multiplication. In Year 2 the children must know by heart the 2, 3, 5, and 10 times tables - question and answer. Please work on these at home using the sheet I sent home in the week.

RE - we are learning all about the Mass this half term. We have started by looking at the sections of the Mass and now we are concentrating on what we think about when we go to Mass, who we remember and how it relates to the actions of Jesus at the Last Supper.

Science - we have started our new topic all about Healthy Bodies. This week we talked about all the things we can do to keep ourselves healthy and the good  choices we can make. We also talked about the importance of sleep as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Geography - we have continued our work on Australia, looking at maps and locating the main cities of the country and how Australia is an island - like us! We also looked at Kayden's photos from his trip to Australia - next week we will have a look at mine!

Homework - reading! Thank-you to all of you who supported your children with the beginning of the Reading Challenge 100 million minutes! Year 2 got off to a great start on Friday morning - keep it up, reading every day - read anything you like - comics, newspapers, school books, library books - just keep on reading. Please sign your child's reading record each time they read.

Maths - learning 2, 3, 5, 10 times tables - this will help to support our class work. Thank-you.

Have a lovely weekend....Mrs Hollinghurst and Mrs Bowdell
