Where does the time go to?! The children have spent the morning with Mrs Whetnall and Mrs Bowdell this morning to prepare them for September. I hear that they had a great time and made a good ‘first impression’. This is important for their new start. The children do think they are going to go back to Mr Whetnall in Reception - so this morning came as a surprise to some of them that it wasn’t about ‘choosing time’ and outdoor exploration! Change can be challenging, so today was a good experience for all of them.

The children have all been working hard, but these are the children we are celebrating this week…

Golden Award -

Writing Award -

Maths Award - be to given out on Monday

This week we have been learning…..

English - continuing on with our RWI groups, reading and spelling. We have also been perfecting our handwriting and working on our reading comprehension skills.

Maths - we have been measuring using rulers in cm. The children have been measuring all manner of things and getting used to remembering to put the unit of measure, com, at the end of the number.

RE - this week we have been writing our own versions of the miracle of Jesus healing the blind man.

Topic - we continued our work on Amy Johnson

PE Kits - can I PLEASE ask you all NOT to send your child to school in trainers if they CANNOT tie their own laces. The children sit on the carpet, untying their laces and Mrs Veasey and I spend all day re-tying them. This is not a good use of our time. Moving around with un-done laces is also dangerous for young children. Thank-you.

READING BOOKS - will be changed Friday - no time to change books today with moving up morning.

REPORTS - Home tomorrow (Friday). If you wish to discuss your child’s report next week, please make an appointment. Please note the teachers have a staff meeting on a Monday night, so I will not be available after school on Monday. Phonics Screening results will come home with your child’s report.

Have a nice weekend….Mrs Hollinghurst and the Year 1 team
