Welcome back to the start of the summer term! Where has the time gone to? We have already been hard at work. On Tuesday we had a visit from a dance teacher who worked with the children to create a dance based on the Gingerbread Man, which was our focused story last half term. We have also planted our potatoes this week! So hopefully after the sun we had at the start of the week and now the rain, they have had a great start.

All the children have made a great start to the term, but these are the children we are particularly celebrating…

Golden Award - Oscar and Rion for making a super start in Year 1

Writing Award - Isabella for super independent writing.

Maths Award -

This week we have been learning…

English - all the children have completed an independent reading task this week…..we will be back to normal RWI lessons on Monday

Maths - this week we have focused on subtraction and subtracting a two digit number by partitioning it into its tens and ones. This has proved to be a bit of a challenge, but we will soldier on! Example 18 - 12 =   18-10 = 8 then 8 - 2 = 6 (subtracting the 10 and then the 2)

RE - our new topic is the Resurrection of Jesus

Science - this half term we are focused on Plants and we made a great start to this by planting our seed potatoes.

Topic - this half term we have a Jungle and Rainforest theme in Geography. This week we learnt about the four different levels of the rainforest and the different animals that live in those sections.

PE days - will continue to be Monday and Friday. Please ensure your child can tie their shoe laces if they are wearing trainers with laces. Also can you ensure that the children are wearing plain black joggers or shorts and not named ones with logos. Thank-you.

PLEASE CAN YOU ENSURE YOUR CHILD’S JUMPERS HAVE THEIR NAMES IN THEM. Many of them don’t and in the afternoons the children move around in class a lot and it has taken a long time this week to re-unite jumpers and their owners. Please name your child’s clothes. Thank-you.

Work at home……Maths - practice splitting two digit numbers up to 20 into a ten and ones. Keep up with the reading and please sign your child’s record book and handwriting practice. Thank-you

Have a lovely weekend……Mrs Hollinghurst and the Year 1 team
