Thank-you all so much for all the effort you went to to make the children look so fabulous today. We have had a super day and have shared some lovely stories and it has been great to hear the children talk about the books they love.

The children have worked really hard this week but these are the children we are celebrating….

Golden Award - Poppy for super effort in all areas of her work

Writing Award - Isabelle for great independent writing work in RWI

Maths Award - Charlotte for her super work on 2D shapes

This week we have been learning….

English - along with our RWI work we have been discussing our favourite books and the stories we love to hear. We are still working hard on our pre-cursive handwriting - it was lovely to hear the visiting teacher comment so positively on the children’s beautiful handwriting.

Maths - we have continued our work on shape - this week concentrating on the properties of 2D shapes, discussing their sides and corners (vertices) and how to create a repeated pattern using two or three shapes.

RE - this week our main focus has been Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent. The children behaved very well in church on Wednesday and I was very proud of how sensibly they received their ashes. We have all written a Lent Promise, something extra that we are going to work on over Lent to ensure we are ready to meet Jesus at Easter.

Science - this week we have looked at Seasonal Change and the months of the year in each season. The children have also looked at how the weather changes with each of the seasons.

Topic - we have continued our work on Elizabeth !! and completed a piece of writing on her reign.

School Gates - as I mentioned in my text on Wednesday the classroom gates will be locked at 9am each morning and will remain locked until 3.25pm. The large school gates into the junior yard will not be opened until 3.20pm each day.

At home - please keep up with the children’s reading - at least three times a week, preferably every day. Your child will be given a sticker on their book mark and a completed book mark will be rewarded in class with a certificate. PLEASE ENURE YOU SIGN YOUR CHILD’S READING RECORD. Thank-you.

Can you also ensure that your child can put on and take off their own PE jumper and if they are wearing trainers with laces, they MUST be able to tie them themselves. Thank-you.

Thank-you for noting our PE change of days this week, we are back to normal next week - MONDAY and FRIDAY!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend….Mrs Hollinghurst and the Year 1 team
