This week I have started a new system in Year 1 to recognise and reward all the good behaviour and excellent work that goes on in class. If a child is ‘spotted’ using beautiful manners, helping others, working hard, giving a great answer in class and generally being marvellous, then then will re rewarded with a Golden Ticket. These all go in a special box and one ticket will be drawn each Friday…..the winning name will be able to choose a prize from the prize box. The children are working hard to gain a ticket…..keep up the hard work Year 1!

This week the children have been working very hard and these are the children we have particularly chosen to celebrate this week….

Golden Award - Lexi Rose for being a true disciple of Jesus and being an excellent role model in Year 1

Writing Award - Joseph for fabulous independent writing in RWI.

Maths Award - Ayson for super work on comparing and then ordering two digit numbers

This week we have been learning….

English - we are continuing to work hard in our RWI groups - I have been so impressed with the standard of independent writing. In class we are working on our Common Exception Words - and these are being assessed as we speak! Please keep up the hard work with the handwriting practice, we are making great progress with this.

Maths - we have continued our work on number to 20, this week focusing on greater than and less than and finding the difference between a pair of numbers. The children have worked hard on this and we have now moved to ordering two-digit numbers.

Science - in Seasonal Change this week we looked at the features of Spring and the types of clothes that we would wear for different types of weather.

RE - the children wrote their own versions of the Follow Me story in which Jesus chose His disciples. I was so impressed with the standard of independent writing.

Topic - we learnt some more facts about Queen Victoria and started to draw our own portraits of the lady in question.

Work at Home - handwriting, reading and shoe lace tying practice. Please can you ensure that if your child is coming to school in trainers with laces they can tie their own laces. Some children still need to practice taking off and putting on their own PE jumper.

PE Clothes - please can you ensure that your child has plain black jogging bottoms for PE and that girls do not have earrings in on PE days, which are MONDAY and FRIDAY. Thank-you.

DATE FOR YOUR DIARY - Key Stage 1 Palm Liturgy service will take place on MONDAY 8TH APRIL at 2.30pm IN CHURCH. Please join us if you can.

Have a lovely weekend……Mrs Hollinghurst and the Year 1 team
