This week we have been learning that through our Baptism we are called to Christ and belong to Him. His love for us is great and we are truly blessed. At Our Lady’s we know that we are all part of God’s family and we are special to Him, to our own families and to our school community.

All of Year 1 have worked hard this week, but we are celebrating the following children in particular….

Golden Award - Elsie for being a good talk partner developing talk for learning

Writing Award - Charlotte for developing her pre-cursive handwriting

Maths Award - Jacob for super subtraction work

This week we have been learning…..

English - we are working very hard in our RWI groups and making great progress with our pre-cursive handwriting, which the children are encouraged to use all the time now! We are enjoying our Pirate class reader too.

Maths - we have continued to work on subtraction, this week concentrating on finding the difference. This has proved a little tricky, but the children have all worked really hard and we have used counters and drawings to help us to see that one amount is more/less than the other and then counting how many more/less.

RE - this week we have looked at the meaning of the signs and symbols of Baptism and that through our Baptism we are called by our names to God. We have talked about how the candle is a symbol of Jesus’ shining light and how we can shine our light for Jesus.

Topic - as part of our pirate topic we have looked at maps and tried to draw our own map of the classroom  in bird’s eye view. Quiet tricky!

ICT - Tuesday was Safer Internet Day, so rather than Science, we talked about how to keep ourselves safe whilst using the internet. The key message for Year 1 was to always ask an adult before going online and to ensure that we ALWAYS tell an adult if there is something we are unsure about. Please discuss this important issue with your child at home.

CLASS NEWS - PIRATE DAY FRIDAY 15TH FEBRUARY. Remember to come to school dressed as a pirate for the day to help us get into the swing of things! NO PE KIITS THAT DAY - JUST PIRATE OUTFITS. Thank-you.

MID TERM REPORTS - will be sent out Friday 1st March - the end of the first week back after half-term.

Please continue to keep Amy and Avie in your prayers. We had a little visit from Avie last Friday, which was lovely. The children have all missed her very much and we look forward to welcoming her back into class after half-term. Amy still needs our prayers as she has a long journey back to health ahead of her - we miss her dearly and send her all our love. God Speed.

Work at home…….reading, handwriting practice, number bonds with numbers up to 10 and tying shoe laces.

Have a lovely weekend……Mrs Hollinghurst and the Year 1 team.
