We have been learning all about Baptism this week and how through this sacrament become part of God’s family.

Year 1 have all worked really hard this week, but these are the children we are celebrating …..

Golden Award - Ola for super effort in all her work this week

Writing Award - Ayson for beautiful pre-cursive handwriting

Maths Award - Joseph for super number bonds work, writing addition and subtraction questions

This week we have been learning…

English - we have been continuing with our RWI targets, working on spelling, phonics and reading. We have also been working on spelling and handwriting in class and remembering our non-negotiables in writing - full stops, capital letters and finger spaces.

Maths - we have begun work on subtraction this week. I have been really impressed with how the children have applied their number bonds to subtraction and used the part part whole method to write number sentnces to make a family of number sentences. Example - using the numbers 7, 5 and 2 we know 7-5=2 and 7-2=5 plus 2+5=7 and 5+2=7. This is super work!

RE - we have been learning about the signs and symbols of Baptism and that through our Baptism we belong to God’s family. Thank-you to all those who have sent in a photograph of your child’s baptism - if you haven’t sent one in yet, then please do, it’s not too late! We are going to look at these on Monday in our RE lesson.

Science - we are continuing with our work on Materials, this week learning all about waterproof, flexible and transparent materials.

Year 1 News…

Please keep Amy and Avie in your prayers. We pray for them every morning and will do until they are returned to us. We will not be a complete family until our girls are back with us.

Keep up with the reading, handwriting and shoe-lace tying practice.

I will be arranging a Parents Meeting soon to discuss the Phonic Screening which ALL Year 1 children will have to complete in May. Date to be arranged - but this will provide information for you all on what the children will have to do and how you can help at home.

Have a lovely weekend……Mrs Hollinghurst and the Year 1 team
