All the children have been super stars this week, but these are the children who have really shone…

Golden Award - Max for having a super attitude to learning and a wonderful smile!

Writing Award - Jack for using our pre-cursive letters EVERYTIME he writes his name!

Maths Award - Poppy for great grouping work - very organised!

School Councillors - last week the children voted for one girl and one boy who would represent Year 1 at the School Council meetings…..Lexi Rose and Max were the successful candidates. Many congratulations.

This week we have been learning……

English - we are continuing with our pre-cursive handwriting. PLEASE CAN YOU ENSURE YOUR CHILD IS HOLDING THEIR PENCIL CORRECTLY - should be pinched between the thumb and first finger, with the rest of the fingers behind to support. Thank-you!

We have also started our RWI programme this week - working on phonics, spelling, reading and writing. The children are working in small groups, each supported by an adult.

Maths - this week we have been working on grouping and counting. Looking at what groups we can make, how many more we need to make 10. Number bonds to 10 is still our focus - so please work on these pairs at home!

Science - we have been looking at senses this week and what we can see, smell, hear, touch and feel.

RE - we are looking at the Creation story and the order in which the world was created by God.

History - we are learning about our families; talking about people who are special to us and our wider family.

Thank-you to all those parents who were able to come to the meeting on Tuesday - lovely to see so many of you! Any questions, about anything at all, please ask.

Letters - thanks for all the letters and forms that have been returned already. PLEASE ENSURE FLU LETTERS ARE RETURNED ASAP. I will be able post photos on the website once all the permission forms are back, so please return those asap too! Thank-you very much.

Work at home - reading please! The children have made such a super start….keep it up! Work on pencil grip if you can and putting on and taking off own jumpers/coats/shoes and socks.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Hollinghurst and Year 1 team
