Summer is here and what a wonderful week it has been coming back to school for our last half term together. It is amazing how quickly the time has flown but wow what progress all of the children have made in Year One. This week the children have worked really hard with their reading in their groups and independently. I am so proud of them all.

In Maths we have been solving practical problems about time, learning about chronological order and sequencing days of the week and months of the year. I wonder if the children can remember these at home?

Our topic this half term is all about flight. We have learned about the Wright brothers who invented flying and we have started to learn about Amy Johnson and why she is so important in our local history.

Our RE topic is Miracles and this week the children learned about when Jesus healed the man who could not walk. We thought about people we know who are sick and asked Jesus to help them. In Science we have started looking closely at the 4 seasons and what the weather is like in each season. The children have done some lovely drawings of the seasons in their Science books.

Please continue to read regularly home, we are continuing our weekly record to show children who have read at least 3 times a week for our Summer challenge! We are very excited to see all of the things which the children achieve throughout this last half term in Year One.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Dixon and The Year One Team
