We had wonderful, if slightly wet and chilly, day at the zoo on Tuesday! The children were all fabulous and really engaged with the day, supporting all our learning on animals this term. An enjoyable hay was day by all! Here are a few pictures of our day.

This week we are celebrating…

Golden Award - all of Year 1 for making me very proud of them this week on our trip and at Mass.

Writing Award -  Poppy for great ‘talk for writing’ when recounting the details of our school trip.

Maths Award - Monday assembly

This week we have been learning…..

English - we have continuing to work hard on all of our sounds in RWI and apply these skills to our reading, writing and phonics work. We are always working hard on our handwriting and beautiful letter formation.

Maths - this week we have been working on number bonds and the facts we know to 10. We have also worked on showing these facts in LOTS of different ways - same but different! The children have been amazing at this. We have also used bead strings this week too!

Science - all covered by our trip to the zoo!

RE - this week has been at important one for Year 1 as on Wednesday we went to Church with Year 6 to join them for their class Mass which Father Jim dedicated to Amy. As a community we joined our prayers with Mary, Our Mother, to ask Her to bless Amy and all the Sanderson family and to ask Her to bring Amy back to us as we miss her dearly.

Please keep Amy, and her wonderful family, in your prayers at this most difficult time. Year 1 made me incredibly proud of them in the way they behaved and the beautiful messages that they all wrote with we offered in thanksgiving in the offertory. A number of Year 1 read beautifully and took up the offertory. The Mass was beautiful and a lovely chance for us to offer our prayers as a community to Amy.

I am a very proud teacher this week…..well done Year 1.

Keep reading and working on your number bonds to 10 at home this weekend.

Have a lovely weekend…..Mrs Hollinghurst and the Year 1 team
