Blink and you’ll miss it! The week’s are flying by. The children have all worked so hard this week and have amazed me with all they have learnt! These are the children we are celebrating this week…

Golden Award - Avie for being a super role model in Year 1 - positive attitude towards all pieces of work, lovely manners and a beautiful smile.

Writing Award - Joshua for lovely letter formation in his Remembrance poem - great work Joshua!

Maths Award - to be awarded Monday

This week we have been learning….

English - we are working hard on our sentence construction in RWI, de-coding unknown words and using our known sounds to work out un-known words. We have finished learning how to form each of our pre-cursive letters and are now using these letters in all our work. We have also started using our handwriting books to help us work on the size of our letters.

Maths - we are continuing to work on our part part whole methods and this week have started to use this method to write calculations. We have learnt that addition calculations can be done in any order ie 4 + 3 = 7, 3 + 4 = 7, 7 = 3 + 4. 7 = 4 + 3 these are the additions facts we can generate using 7, 3, and 4.

Science - this week we have been learning all about nocturnal animals and how their senses are stronger than humans.

RE - we have started to learn about the order of the Mass this week and the importance of Eucharist, in line with the Year of the Eucharist, which has begun this month. We have learnt that at the start of the Mass we are called to say sorry to God for the things we have done wrong - and all of us have always got something to say sorry for! We discussed the times when we don’t always listen, or put ourselves before others and the children wrote some beautiful sorry prayers to God. I am very proud of them and how they reflected on their own behaviour.

Topic - we have looked at Blackpool as a holiday town and made postcards detailing all the things we have done during our ‘holiday’ in Blackpool.

NATIVITY - YR1 AND 2’S NATIVITY WILL TAKE PLACE ON TUESDAY 18TH DECEMBER AT 9.30AM AND 2PM. EACH CHILD WILL BE SENT TWO TICKETS FOR EACH PERFORMANCE.

Year 1 trip - the children will bring home a letter on Friday about our school trip to Blackpool Zoo on Tuesday 27th November to support our Science Topic on Animals. Please return the slip and donation asap please, detailing whether or not your child will have s school packed lunch that day OR a home packed lunch. As Year 1 are entitled to a free school dinner, a packed lunch will be provided for them, unless you tell us otherwise. Thank-you.

Thank-you for all the Pennies for Pudsey - he will be in the entrance hall for a few days next week, so please feel free to make a donation if you forgot your pennies on Friday.
